Extended Warranty (2014 528i)

Hi Folks,

Just curious to find out what everyone's take is on the extended warranty plan? I think the BMW plans are expensive. Heard about Route 66 and one more 3rd party extended warranties.

Any suggestions of which any good ones? also, is it worth it?

regards,

Do you need extended warranty on a 528? I would get it for a 550.. I have route66 they are great and cheap IMO.

am not sure if i need the warranty. first time owner :P.. thats why i am leaning on you guys to provide guidance. the car is 2.5 yrs old with 35k miles. I am thinking of holding on to it for about 2-3 years more at least.

I would recommend it. I forgot which one I got but I bought it from BMW but its not BMW's warranty. Its all chance of wether or not your car is going to need it.

For me, I got my extended warranty at 49.5k miles (warranty is for another 50k and like 3 years. At 53k miles, the car started leaking oil so I took it into the dealer. They had the car for a week (gave me a BMW rental). They needed up replacing all the oil seals, filter and the oil itself. The price of all of that was the same price I paid for the warranty. In essence, this one problem paid for my warranty.

I have my warranty through USAA which goes through Assurant. They cover everything that's not wear and tear/preventative maintenance items (clutch, brake pads/rotors, etc). I have it on my M6 and my 535i and on the M6 it repaired a cooling system issue, a thermostat replacement, and a rental car for the weekend which altogether was half of what I paid for the 2 year warranty itself, and this was 500 miles into my purchase. Still have 23,500 to go!

The one I got covers bumper to bumper AND there is 0 deductible.

What they don't cover are things like general maintenance items, entertainment system speakers, head unit, navi etc. They have a list somewhere but what matter is the high priced items are covered. Also they don't pay for fluids and sales tax (I think)
