These are the same guys who are going to can the next 4 door M3 and give us the disgusting and totally hideous M3 GT. Why? Because they didn't market the E90 M3 and thus sales were low. Also their lease rates sucked.

I don't know who runs the place over there but please offer me a job. I can do better.

SCOTT has backed off from those initial suppositions lately and said no M3 GT is coming. So it sounds like that idea may have been axed, or at least is being re-weighed. For that matter, we don't know that it is just a single person who uses the "SCOTT" user account so there may be some differing opinions or different levels of knowledge being shared.

There is no M3 GT. It was suggested but discarded. This was covered several months ago.

A Gran Coupe M3 is more probable.

What I heard today, the US might not even see the 3er Gran Turismo now.

You got rid of the E61?!?

My 2007 E61 has 48k miles on it...and might eventually have 248k miles on it if BMW doesn't offer the new 5er wagon here...

Hear that BMW?!? I'm offering to buy a $60k car from you, just bring it to me door!!!

Those of us who own one could really care less. As I sincerely doubt any one here regrets his/her decision to buy a GT.

Upon my initial introduction to the GT I knew it was basically a 7 through and through. The irony in all of this, is I wonder if it should have been marketed as a 7 to begin with, instead of a high dollar 5 ?.

Fully agree.

I have also not heard of anyone who has bought one who dislikes it.

BMW had already used the 6xx designation whereas Audi had the A7 slot available to correctly position their car between the A6 and A8 which is where it rightly belongs.

Thanks for chiming in, SCOTT. I think I speak for most everyone when I say that if there has to be only one of either an M3 GT or M3 GC, well then it has got to be the latter. While either one would probably be serviceable for a current E90 M3 owner who's planning their next vehicle, clearly the GC has to be the most exciting.

I suppose that doesn't come as too big a surprise at this point. If - generally speaking - Europe loves their tourings, Asia loves their GTs, and us Americans happen to prefer SAVs, who's to tell them any different? Nothing wrong with different vehicles built on the same platforms, tailored for regional preferences. As long as everything is generating profit, of course.

The GT is way ahead of its time for the primitive. Thats just a fact!

GT Owner

As a previous owner of three 7 Series, I find that the GT has all the bells and whistles of the 7 series with additonal options of fold-down rear seats which suits me just fine for my use. At 8,000 miles, its been a trouble free vehicle and a joy to drive. Many people compliment it once they see it in person. Personally I don't really care what others think. It is exactly what I wanted. Just my two cents.

Yeah, my lease was up. In the last month of the lease, some dumb bitch caused an accident that I became involved in, and totaled it. So I never really got to say goodbye, officially. It was practically loaded. $70k GONE in just seconds.

Good news is, while my new X3 is being checked and detailed, they gave me an E61 535i sedan. It's nice to "catch up."

I've only driven mine in Germany after delivery there...hope to get it here in the next couple of weeks. I bought the GT because I fit and the functionality met my needs. To get into the 5-series sedan, I had to fold myself into a pretzel; not something I want to do, regardless of how it looks or feels or drives. Some of that is a function of mandating a sunroof, some is the shorter doors, regardless of the roof height, to provide adequate roll-over protection, and some is style. The X6 and X5 actually have less functional headroom, so if that is the major issue, the GT wins. The SUV's tend to have higher seats, so the headroom still isn't great, even though they are higher, and then you actually have to get through the door first. The combination of seat height, door size and location make it easy to get into and out of for me.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so if you don't like it, don't buy it. Personally, I care more about function - my first new car was a Citroen ID19 in 1971...neat car, ugly...I liked it. Now, to me, the function would have increased considerably if they offered the diesel in the USA, but they don't, and I couldn't wait any longer to replace my old car (well, I could, but didn't want to!).

GT is unique and full of fun, the 5er sedan is so plain and ordinary,
the GT's roomy back seats is unbeatable~
As for the look, it's 2nd to the Z4.

wow 5 pages of bashing the looks and calling the designers "losers" Well, I like mine....I bought it so that I could throw my bike in the back and also have really comfortable back seats for my passengers. Great for shopping, great for sports, and great for driving. I think it looks better than the station wagons and way better than the X6. I used to have an SUV, this drives better and gets way better gas mileage.

I agree with the other GT owners here...we are really pleased with the car and receive a lot of positive feedback about the GT's looks everyday.

I cross-shopped the 5 series (I previously owned an E39) and its just too compact for me and my family - and its so plain and common here.

I cross-shopped the 7 series and the GT is a 7 series (raised 2 inches and with a different rear design) for 5-series money. I happily paid $65k fully loaded (v8 turbo) euro delivery and could have bought any car I wanted.

We still don't have a direct competitor either, as the GT is a "5 Door" Sedan not a crossover. There is no other car in the premium segment with the option choices of the GT either... Let see Turbo Charged V8 or V6, AWD or RWD, Panoramic Roof, Optional 4place - Power Adjustable Rear Seats, Night Vision, Heads Up Display, Twin opening trunk, Soft Closing Doors, Rear Entertainment system with Dual Monitors in each seat back - with Illuminated Remote Control, Available Staggered 20inch wheel x 10inches in the rear (550i RWD), Full Nappa Leather Interior, Ceramic Controls.... etc.. I have a lot more but I will stop here.

Don't worry about the haters - even O'Donnell for that matter, as he has been replaced.. The GT is not going anywhere, and rest assured that the car is not intended to be a volume seller any way it is a niche vehicle, exclusivity guaranteed.

You may also hear some folks carry-on about dealers deeply discounting "existing" GT's sitting on their lots. When the GT was introduced many of the dealers received cars with weird option packages that weren't appealing to consumers. The market demographic had not been thoroughly identified. Also being marketed as a high dollar 5 Series starting at $64k caught people off guard as well. I ordered, bought and took delivery before the discounts - MSRP over 86 grand and I am still happy @ a current 22,592 on the odo. I know a comparable 7 Series would have cost about $110k I am very, very, happy with my purchase and my $26,000.00 discount - all with added flexibility and No Sacrifices..... I could have bought a Panamera Turbo or a loaded 7 Series....my priority was comfort, room (5 place seating, space for Car Seat & Stroller), and Luxury...

The GT just made "cents" I mean sense to me.

One last thing if BMW decides to bring the F11 touring over. They better bring all engine variations with....lest It will be sitting on dealer lots

I'll get off the soap box now
