..not sure how to interpret this... if the projected price for a F10 550i is to be some 3k more than the E60, then wouldnt this put the new 550i almost par (if not more than) the 550 GT (saw base price at 63900)? Isn't the GT to be more exclusive than the reg 550 sedan?... not sure what i'm missing...

Sheesh, the 550i got a price bump. This compares to the E550 which actually got a price cut from the last version...

Does anyone else notice the 550i's 27 mpg consumption? Is that for real?

This is most likely imperial gallons which are larger than US gallons. This works out to between 22-23 US MPG which isn't bad for that kind of power. I wonder if the E9x M3 had this motor, would it have better MPG?

I hope the US price on 550 stays the same! If they increase 550i price, they better reduce 535i price. I am contemplating 535i or 550i depending on price.

I can guarantee that the 550i will undercut the E550. Its always been that way, and its not about to change now.

Bear in mind, the price quoted there for the E60 550i is for a manual, the price quoted for the F10 is for automatic. North America is getting an F10 550i manual but we are not.

Slightly off topic, but why no 535d? Do you think it'll come later?

sorry, but you're going to be disappointed. In this economy, what makes you think they're going to lower anything? Better stick to the 3 series.

Well that's expected; more stuff standard and newer technologies in an inflated world = higher price.

True....but isn't an automatic in the E60 a no-cost option these days?
Which I believe amounts to BMW building the cost of the automatic into the base price.
At least for the 5 Series Sedan.....

Mercedes Benz has many, many models where it earns a serious margin (like the S-class, for one). They might be willing to risk low pricing on the E-Class.

Also, doesn't the C-Class cost less than the 3 Series these days? It used to be the other way around. I'm hoping for lower prices just as much as the next guy, but I wouldn't be too sure...BMW can always cut production of the F10 and focus higher volume production with lesser models like the 1 & 3 Series.

You just said it in your reply. They have to keep prices down in the economy if they want any sales.

In theory yes, but as the 550GT has shown, they have no intention of doing that. The majority of their sales being in the United States does not excuse the fact that the dollar is weakening. It won't be a drastic hike in pricing, but it's not going to go down. As the previous member posted, Merc can lower the price a little on one model because it makes up for it in the dozens of other models they have.

Kind of makes you think though....maybe that IS why BMW is introducing so many odd variants. To spread the margins around.

Ahhhh, but do they have enough spread around at this point with what they currently have for sale? I say no. Why do think they would come back with such a vengenance (now with 2 different turbo charged powerhouses)? Remember the E60, debuting with 184 horsepower in the base model? Here they're prepared for a power bump right away.

Clearly, I think they want to market this car up the food chain. I'm sure the 528 will be very competitively priced, but not the others.

You have already seen some of the pricing structure on the 5....

The 528 will be an interesting case in standard features- just wait and see as BMWNA is still making some decisions on how to package it for a specific price point (notice how the 328 for 2010 is missing a few things that have been standard for years!)

The GT will set the market cap in 550 form from everything I have heard- much like the 540 sportwagon did years ago.

BMW is spreading the R&D and increasing economies of scale internally so there is more shared components than there have been in quite a number of years so that may help with pricing. I would anticipate a bump of course but nothing that does not make the new product a greater value b/c of technology and overall improvements.

The 528i will debut 3-5 weeks post 535i/550i if all goes according to current plans.

Hopefully BMWNA can price all range of 5er competitively. Some of the F10 technology is vastly improved from previous gen but at the same time should be given while competitors also offered similar technology with competitive price.

$80,000 for a 550i with NO options?
I wonder how much a 550 will run with AWD and a dual clutch transmission here in the states?

Where did you read that the 550i will come with DCT? I highly doubt that DCT will be offered with any FI engines in near future for the same reasons that the X5/6 M isn't offered with DCT.

I would love to be proven wrong.
