Unhappy Sat-Nav Updates?

I've had my new 520d F11 (May 2012 Build) for a week now and have already driven on 2 major motorways that don't appear on the sat-nav of the professional media system. The 2 roads in question are...

1. M74 Extension (completed June 2011 - over 12 months ago!)
2. M80 Extension (completed August 2011 - over 10 months ago!)

My questions are...

1. Can I download an update for this? If so, how/where?
2. If not, can my dealer do the update?
3. How often, in general, do BMW update the maps?

Personally, I think this is unacceptable considering the amount I spent on the professional media system!!!

Has anyone else had similar experiences with the maps being out of date?

What version of maps do you have? The latest is European PREMIUM 2012.

I've just updated my 2011 maps to 2012 which I did myself. The dealer charges a few hundred quid but you can dowload the DVDs for free (3 of them) and then pay about $50 USD for the chassis-specific activation code.

I'd imagine you have the 2012 version anyway going by the build-date.

I'm in work just now but I'm sure it is PREMIUM 2012. Does that mean there is only 1 update a year and that roads completed in 2011 missed the 2012 release!

BMW might be the ultimate driving machine but only if you know where you are going!!!!

When I had the older-style Navigation, (where it reads from a DVD as opposed to the HDD) there were about three updates per year, but that was just GB & Ireland. It seems now that all of Europe is in one big set that it is only updated annually. Why those roads missed the cut is anyones guess - a new (minor) road opened near me around October which wasn't on the 2011 set that came with the car but did appear after I upgraded to 2012 maps.

I don't suppose you could give a couple of pointers?

Where to download DVDs? Do you get the activation code from a BMW site?

TIA

Dealers charge about £100 for the code but this guy will get you one for $50.

*****************

As for the DVDs you can get them from a dealer for £26 I believe or download them for which you will have to search. Bear in mind there are 3 x 8Gb files though so you need a fast connection. After I updated mine I donated the DVDs to another user on this site who might pass them on when he's updated his.

I've checked the version of maps I have and it says...

ECE
BMW Group
101104.2.17
Road Map Europe PREMIUM 2012

I take it this will be the most recent then?

I'll going to speak to dealer either today or tomorrow and see what he says.

Yes, that's the most recent version so contacting the dealer won't get you anywhere as there is no more recent version to load.

At least if I complain, I might have more chance of getting the next release free.

I'm very disappointed in BMW over this though.

Yes possibly. In fairness it's probably not BMWs fault. Navteq, who produce the mapping data, have very strange licencing agreements and a strict order on how they release updates and to whom.

Fair enough but why use a company who are not professional enough to produce up to date maps!!!

I had a quick look at Navteq's website there. Their map on the front page does not have the M74 extension either so that will explain why it wasn't in the 2012 release of the BMW maps. I don't hold out much hope that it will be in the 2013 release either!!!

I have noticed that about the M74 extension too. SatNav goes a bit crazy when you're driving on it. I have noticed a few others too. You would think that the amount of money you have spent on the ProMedia package you would be able to update often and cheaply.

Can you please tell the part number for the disks for £26. I've called my dealer and he says disks are not available separately; car has to be booked in.
I have a 2009 E92 hard drive based Professional satnav that I wish to update to 2012 maps.

Alternatively, can you pm me the torrent/ server link for the disks?
I have already contacted someone for the FSC activation code.

Thx.

If you go to the BMW website you can find the disks listed in the BMW Owners Area under Genuine BMW Accessories - priced from £85........

I don't think you can. If you have the HDD in your car I haven't found anyone who can supply the updates apart from BMW for my E92.

The disks are definitely available (no doubt about these). Loads of search hits on the internet. The FSC code too can be obtained from people on the internet; costing around £50 or so…

All I was looking for is avoiding downloading 20 GB of files from the internet - and buying the disks from BMW directly.

The FSC code will have to be purchased either from BMW (about £175+) or from internet (£50).

You obviously didn't read my earlier answer - it can be done as I did it.

I got my fsc code from the contact as shown above and downloaded the DVDs from ftp://fscmap.com

I was told that you could by the media without an activation code from the dealer for £26 but that may vary.

There you go then. Mind you, if you have a 2012 F10 then you would have had the latest maps anyway.

You'd have thought that .. but I didn't, it came with 2011 maps.

Mind you I've not noticed much difference on roads I drive. It still hasn't got the road I live on, nor the new(ish) bypass by Cribbs Causeway.

Chris,

Can you please provide info on the exact part number?
Also the dealership name/ address?
Or post a copy of your invoice?

My dealer says it can't be done and wants to charge £190 + labour.

I would prefer to buy the disks from BMW and the FSC code from the aforementioned person in the forum.

Thanks..
