Seriously though, it's worth a complaint to BMW UK if his email was offensive. I'd even send it to them saying how disgusted you were.....

Great news that you managed to get an even better deal that the one you were originally happy enough with to place the order. You must be very happy with that.
My sense is that it's partly negotiation skills but mostly good timing and good fortune. It's all about the position the dealer is in relative to their targets right? Following the subject of discounts, pre-registered & showroom cars can net you a great deal if the timing is right. As I understand it the dealers get them for 90 days from BMW at no charge. Then the charges start kicking in and of course, the depreciation is always nibbling away at the value. I'm not sure, but I think the charges come in steps so if you get the timing proximate to one of those steps you can really nab a great deal. With used cars the dealers don't tend to buy them with their own cash, they use finance, but they get it at a very very low rate (sub 1%) for 90 days, then it starts to climb. So at 90 days is when you're likely to start getting the chance to pay them less than the car owes them. The more time that goes by the better. I've been tracking 2013 cars for sale this past 2 months and have seen the list prices on 3 or 4 reduce by £1000 a week. Here's an example: 520d SE Saloon 11,000 miles, '13 plate. 18" wheels, sport auto, prof media, reverse cam. £27,450 when I spotted it on 14-Dec £26,950 £25,950 £24,950 on 5-Jan I'd imagine someone will have bagged a great deal and taken a chunk more off that. |

Strange, in Sweden you can get 8% on the car and separate options, 0% on packages like M-Sport etc. If you are a company with a centralized deal you can get 14-10% depending on how big company you have.

When financing I never look at the OTR price they charge you as you know the dealers are making money somewhere. Either by offering a bad price with the part exchange or changing the deposit. But all I look at is the balloon and monthly figure. If the balloon leaves good equity and the monthly payment is right for me, I'm sold. Regardless of how much off they give you.. It is all just financial engineering to make us sign the paper.

Agree E60, although the balloons (expected values) seem to fairly set in stone depending on the model you choose.
There also seems very little (none at all in my case) negotiation on the interest rates these days, so you're generally down to the trade in value if there is one and the reduction you can get on the car with options to get to the acceptable monthly price if your PCP'ing. On mine I generally try to get an all in price with the trade in with the dealer, then try to sell my car either privately or elsewhere to maximise my side if the deal. I did this with my RRSport when getting into this BMW and I managed to secure an additional £2.5k, meaning I could then increase my deposit and reduce my monthly payment sooner. As you say though, it's all about getting the deal that's good for you. |

They knew their cars were pre-reg. I got a brand new F10, sports steering, auto, metallic paint, service pack and business media but paying £70 less a month and a £100 smaller deposit. We are all on the 48 months and 8000 miles deal. Like I say, it's all financial engineering.

Agree with the above. Ultimately % means nothing, look at the actual numbers you pay. They seem to be able to bodge any number to make it fit, regardless of the %.
ie they discount a bit, keep the same % APR, et viola, a longer monthly payment. Lots of talk of good dicounts on here, but unless you know the total cost of purchase, there is no telling who actually got the best deal.

That has certainly been my experience too. Immovable on the APR. The claim is that BMW set the %.
The price is theirs to control however and here is where it's a lot about luck and timing. They'll take a loss on the car if it's the end of month and they are real close to making target. Or if they are stuck with more stock than they have room for because BMW just forced a bunch of ex demo's onto them. I was able |
