Review: Eibach Springs on Sport Package 550i

Install:

Took about 4 hours to do the front and the rear. Biggest time waster was getting the spring compressor on and getting it to a point where the top hat could go on. All in all, the 550i was easier than my old e90 335i!

Looks:

Much better. Before the front had a 4 finger gap with the stock 19'' wheels and a 3finger gap in the rear with the same wheel set-up. Now the front is a 2 finger gap and the same with the rear. Love it!

Road Feel:

MUCH BETTER!!! When I test drove this car it felt like a boat. I was so used to my e90. This thing just floated across the road and I felt nothing in the cabin (which is a great thing that bmw did for a different target market). Now with these springs installed there is so much more feedback. Now there is a little fight in the steering wheel which I love around the corners that I am used to in the 335i.

Price:

$275.00 shipped off of ebay from Kurumamotoring.

very nice. Did you paint your calipers black yourself?

Yes, painted the calipers myself. Did not use a spray but used the brush on paint. For those who want to paint using brush on paint DO NOT USE THE BRUSH SUPPLIED IN THE KIT!!! use a good foam brush. Goes on super smooth. I have the//M decals that I still need to apply.

thanks for the compliments!

Very nice, I have the Eibach Springs sitting my room but haven't had time to take the car out and get them installed. Not sure if I will since I am contemplating upgrading from my '11 550i to a 13. Do the springs make bumps in the road more pronounced? I live in Nebraska and in the winter, the roads are complete shit.

There is definitely more feedback from the road. Normal (Comfort) mode still feels great. Sport and sport+ really wakes up the car. Great cheap mod for those that want more feedback with the road and better handling.

Bumps are not teeth jarring as the struts/shocks do a great job. I'm sitting on 20" setup as well.

Next will be m5 front sway bar and 550d rear sway bar.

Looks great!

I know the front spring retaining bolts are easily accessed via the engine compartment, but it looks like the rear spring bolts aren't accessible via the trunk. Did you have to get at them by removing the back seat & rear window shelf?

I have Eibach springs as well as M5 Comp Pack front sway bar and M550d rear sway bar.

The sway bars did even more to transform the handling than the lowering springs did IMO.

I'd recommend you go with the CP front sway bar if you want to as good as eliminate body roll!!! Many M5 owners have also upgraded and report a huge difference after installing the CP sway bars!

You just remove the rear speakers. The bolts are right there. Get a swivel ratchet though. There is one bolt that is tough!

Thanks for the info...

I'm curious if you've had any issues with bottoming out the suspension with the lowered spring set? The roads in the Los Angeles area are riddled with potholes, which concerns me if I drop down too low. Like you, I'm rolling on 20's, and personally noticed a bit of a harsher ride when I upsized from the 19" MSport wheels.

Also, did you keep the OEM auxiliary shock absorbers (or "bump stops") at each corner with the spring set upgrade, or change those out too?

No bottoming out, even on gnarly speed bumps. I also swapped out those crap runflats for regular tires and I can say the comfort is there. I have gone through country roads and dirt roads etc and have yet to see an issue with these springs. I kept all the stock hardware with the springs shocks/strut wise.

I believe DINAN does make an upgrade so the bump stops for 100+ bucks but I have yet to see a review on them.

Got it, thanks.

I think my next mod will be to the suspension on my F10, and will probably go with Dinan's Spring Set / Suspension Shockware for the EDC / Supplemental Ride & Handling Kit (bump stops) combination. I've read that a lot of F10 owners have been upgrading their front & rear sway bars with great success. My car has the Active Roll Stabilization system (two-piece hydraulically actuated sway bars) that has done a good job thus far, so I'm hoping to tie everything together with the suspension upgrade...

Did you use the Pro kit or the Sportline?
