F30 to F10

Hello all, the time has come for me to jump from an f30 to an F10. Help me compare the 328i and 535i (N26-N55)

Also reliability of F10 535i and list common issues, thank you.

These kind of questions are asked often.
Try a search to get opinions.
Also realize that on a forum it is highly biased to people having problems.

At what mileage range are you looking at...This will have a big factor on the type of repairs that might come up.

I've seen them anywhere between 68k to 100k+. Every car is getting a PPI, but please tell me what to lookout for , thank you.

My current BMW is a 2013 f30 328i xDrive 123,000 highway miles. So I'm not concerned about mileage, more so what KIND of MILES was put on the car, and who owned it last. How they took care of it; I had an e60 2004 530i with "low miles" and it was by far the biggest piece of shit I ever owned.

This. We had a 2002 525i with 17k miles thinking what could go wrong. 4 bent wheels, a cracked knuckle, limping transmission, etc. What a nightmare that was.

I just purchased one with 135k, see this thread for similar answers:

In addition to all the common oil leaks, check for the belt tensioner for any wobble and noise. Mine is on its way out so I ordered the kit from FCP.

I would not be scared off with high miles...Just do research and find one that is clean.

Mileage is a factor, but more often overlooked is age is just as detrimental to modern bmws. The plastic lines, hoses, seals and other parts become embrittled over time. While the piston rings maybe fine. The rest is not. I find that bmws once they reach about 5 years of age all the plastics in the engine bay turn to crap. I don’t care if it has 40k miles or 100k. Same problem. Also those vent lines, turn oil lines, partitions, etc will have to be replaced.

P.s. this is not a unique bmw problem it affects Honda’s, fords, etc. plastic engine parts are a way to reduce weight, easier to make smooth and in unique shapes, but not durable over the long haul. I believe cars today perform phenomenally when new, but are built with planned obsolescence with all of that plastic and super high repair costs to replace all of it,
