M5 Diffuser - The Proper Way
There are quite a few of M5 diffusers around, but I think not many have the proper adaptor to house all the sensor and modules and not many threads really making it clear to show the work needed to get it done.
Here is some of my work done. When the stock diffuser is off, the first thing you will know is the M5 diffuser simply does not fit. The M Sport diffuser is too "square" to house the M5 Diffuser. You need this: This little guy fits the M5 diffuser perfectly and save you the trouble to cut or saw your M Sport adaptor off. It has the holes, space to house the wiring but not quite the module. You don't need to take the full bumper off to replace the adaptor. Only one side gives you enough space to take off the oem adaptor and put the M5 one on. The problem is the M5 adaptor has the module places on the left instead on the right like the M Sport one. But there is enough space to place the module on the right behind the adaptor and diffuser. I have wrapped the wires with protector because the housing is on the left. Yet, the sensor and wiring still fits nicely into the M5 adaptor. The infamous sensor for Comfort Trunk Now, I gotta schedule another day to put on the exhaust and M Sport Decal for the side skirt. Hope this helps for any other looking for doing the M5 diffuser properly. It sure took me alot of time to get it right as there was partcular no pics regarding this installation and it is veyr hard to tell the detail of this installation with simple wording.

That's the purpose of the adaptor. The adaptor will house the sensor in the proper location and keeps the feature working properly. It is just a vorsteiner lip.

I think it is around $5x to $60 at the dealer.
The P/N is 51128053585.

You would need the M Sport bumper to fit the diffuser which you would need the adaptor to house the sensors and modules or there is simply no place to fit the above parts.

I'm having an M-tech rear bumper installed on my non msport 535i. In the process of this install I'm having an Eisenmann quad race exhaust and hamann style cf diffuser installed with it. My 535i is equipped with the comfort access.
Do you guys know if I'll need this piece to maintain the rear trunk comfort access sensor too?

You may be able to get away without the adaptor.
But you gotta to be really creative and lucky to place the sensor in the correct location? On top of that, I am not 100% sure if the module is for comfort trunk only or other feature. If it is for features other than the comfort trunk, it may be mandatory. I recall seeing it somewhere say the module is for the rear PDC?

Are you referring to the comfort strip itself? Or are you talking about the "adaptor" you referred to in your original post that allows you to make the trunk sensor work when using the M5 diffuser? Or what? Thanks.

I followed these instructions and it worked for my 2014 535xi m-sport. By the way if you want a set of nice quad tips that you can install over your exhaust check out below links. I installed these on my m-performance exhaust but it should also fit on the stock exhaust. I've had them on for a few months and seem to have pretty good build quality. I really like the rolled tips, it gives it a more OEM look. I went with the 89mm (3.5"), since I felt the stock M5 tips were slightly small (I think they are 3"). These are $89 each so $180 for both however there is no welding necessary which makes it worth it.
By the way you will have to trim the exhaust exit pipe a few inches to stop the tips from sticking beyond the rear bumper, but you can use the exhaust cutters for that. http://www.quality-tuning.com/audi-a...-l190-200-in60 |

Thanks for the walkthrough, it really helped guide me through the process. I just have one issue, my comfort access doesn't work anymore. Is comfort access the strip tacked down by those push in pins? If its somewhat loose (some of the push in pins broke), could that be the culprit?
