Key Issues

Just wondering if anyone can suggest anything.

Bought a used car with two keys. One key the remote function is not working. Changed the battery , can start the car with the key by placing it in the car / near the steering wheel but remote just doesnt work.

Is there anything else I can try or is done for. I presume for new key its dealer only and key plus labour to get it coded or can I just order it and code it myself.
Car is a F10 May 2010 build

A new key fob cost like $400.

You can go buy the key fob insurance from Easycare for $100. Wait a few months and make the claim.

possibly in US but nothing like that here
