Exclamation Got rear ended this morning and engine shut off

Was raining this morning here in So Cal and I was driving to my office as usual. Was at a stop light waiting to make a left turn and when the light turned green I crept forward, turn signal was on and as usual yielded for oncoming traffic and BAM hit from behind. The hazard lights automatically went on and engine shut off. Car sounded like it struggled starting as well. I was in the middle of an intersection so I was able to restart the car and pull over on a neighborhood street.

The other driver hit the area where the tow hook area is in the rear bumper pretty hard. I'm now waiting to see a doctor because my leg has gotten stiff and it's probably because I had my foot on the brake pedal.

In any event, my question is anyone experienced this with the car shutting off? Should I be worried about anything? I just want to make sure my 535i has no issues after because of what happened at the time of the accident.

Any feedback or advice would seriously be appreciated.

UPDATE:
Took the car to BMW New Century Collision Center and the rep there was awesome. He handled everything very quickly but the only part to the story that worried me is that he mentioned the area where it was hit could have potentially caused some frame damage. He said they will find out more once they remove the bumper. I just feel much better knowing that a certified BMW center is taking care of my vehicle.

Here are the pictures:

It is possible the Battery Safety Terminal could have detonated.

Headrest whiplash protection deploy?
Did any airbags go off?

No airbags deployed but what is the headrest protection?

I'm taking it to a certified BMW collision center after I finish up here at the hospital. I just hope no frame damage was done or to the tranny. I've been reading stuff here on the forums making me worried.

In the event of a rear collision the head rests have a small pyrotechnic detonator in them, not unlike an airbag, that forces the head rest pad to extended forward mitigating the possibility of whiplash.

Just look at your headrest compared to the passenger side and you will know if it was deployed or not.

yes, stuck is right. when I was rear-ended
both my headrest went forward and stayed there. made it really uncomfortable to drive until it was fixed. I would have thought the passenger side would not deploy sin email I was alone. definitely have them check the trans and frame

Glad you are mostly OK.
Few things sound weird to me (joking about this)
1. Rain in So Cali
2. Insurance claimed fault?
I believe you have entered and alternate universe...

You should be able to get a comparable rental car from the other person's insurance. Also go for lost resale value or whatever it's called.
I don't know your car, but consider taking this "opportunity" to upgrade a bumper or exhaust if they are in need of replacement anyways. Might cost a few out of pocket but could be worth it.

California you can't do it yourself, you need a lawyer to negotiate that
