Hello
I have a 2011 535xi, I dont know why but sometimes randomly the Airbag light comes on and then the Idrive turns off out of no where. when the airbag light goes off then the Idrive turns back on but lags...

No communications with some modules but again it does it intermittently and its very annoying

This happened after a Very snowy/rainy day in New England...
any ideas?

One more button push on the current screen ("Display Fault Memory" lower right corner of the screen) should produce a list of the codes being set...those would be more helpful than the control unit tree.

I'm guessing, and only guessing, that your K-CAN bus (two wire yellow and green wire pair) has a loose or chaffed connections somewhere in your dashboard.

Not sure that the other 29 codes I can't see are relevant, but now I'd say to look at your ZGM module.

The problem is that there are two instances of the K-CAN bus wires coming into the ZGM module, but you have faulted COMMS on both K-CAN's and the K-CAN2, the ZGM would be the logical module that is faulty.

There is still a chance that there may be a short in the K-CAN bus wires on the ZGM's Pin 50 & 51 K-CAN side, which may fault out specific modules on the ZGM's Pin 7 & 8 K-CAN side.

The K-CAN BUS is divided physically by the Central Gateway Module (A51 ZGM) in the following manner.

- ZGM Pin 7 & 8 K-CAN:
- - A94 HUD
- - A42 Head Unit (Large Silver Box behind the radio button panel)
- - A95 HVAC Control
- - A12 CID (Uses shielded wire on purple connector, not orange/green wire pair)
- - A40 Video Switch
- - A37 Audio Amp (in trunk)
- - A167 Camera Module (in trunk)

- ZGM Pin 50 & 51 K-CAN:
- - A88 Controller (CIC knob on center console)
- - A93 Seat Module, Driver
- - A26 Seat Module, Passenger
- - A66 Tire Pressure Monitoring
- - A43 Trunk Release Module (not the buttons - which are on the LIN BUS)
- - A60 Electrochromatic rearview mirror

- ZGM Pin 48 & 49 K-CAN2
- - A34 PDC

This is a tough one to troubleshoot remotely.

Let me know if you need more info....

BTW, if no fault is set in your crash module (don't see it), the SRS warning can be explained as a loss of COMMS on the K-CAN from one or both seat modules, and would explain why your display turns off too....

All 39 codes happened at the same time (same mileage), I would suspect a battery or electrical glitch issue.
