Premium Hi-Fi System incl w/ Premium Pkg 2 ?
Does anyone have the information and details of what is included in the 677 - Premium Hi-fi system that comes as part of the Premium Pkg 2 for the 2011 5series? I can not find any details/specifications on it!

From what I understand, Hi Fi Professional has been optimised for the acoustics and for the speakers of the F10 and utilises Dirac Live prccessing technology; both frequency and impulse (transient) response optimisation. However, the component choices were made by BMW not Dirac. So, it is unclear if you will get the Hexacone speakers like that used in the BMW Individual Hi Fi System in the E60. Nonetheless, I have been reassured that the Hi Fi Professional system sounds significantly better than the Hi FI Loudspeaker system.

Order code is the same (677) although its called Hi Fi Professional in SG and in the UK. Rather bizarrely, in the option list provided by the dealer, its called "Hi Fi Professional Logic 7" even though the option code is the same. Go figure...
I am going to include that in my order since I am not keen on going aftermarket and it seems like a reasonable cost upgrade (less than USD1,100). |

In the Netherlands you've three choices:
- the standard with 6 speakers; - HiFi system, 12 speakers, 205W (extra € 725,-) - HiFi Professional, 16 speakers, 600W (extra € 1200,-) imo the standard system is not the best (currently in E61 the upgrade to Hifi system). I've chosen the second one (205W).

We have one option in the USA and it is called Hi Fi Premium and it is included in what is called "Premium Package 2". It is listed as code 677, same as Hi Fi Professional, so I am very hopeful it is the same 16 speaker system you have in the Netherlands/SG/UK that is named "Professional". The base radio is not really listed on the order sheets as it is standard and we have no brochures yet for descriptions of options and standard equipment. BMW is most confusing with all their different yet similar names and options!

If the option codes are the same, I have to believe they're the same option. It would be awfully confusing over at the Dingolfing Plant if the same option code in the same model car meant something different merely because the car was bound for the U.S. rather than Europe. I'd be willing to bet money that Option 677 "Premium hi-fi" in the U.S. is the same as "Logic 7 Professional" in Europe.

I hope this sounds good - would welcome anyone's experience if they have driven a car with option 677. Does it have proper bass extension, or just woolly over-blown upper-base, and clear treble not "smeared". I'm looking for sound quality and not shear volume.
Have Logic 7 on my E90 4-Door and its dreadful, software update have twice improved it but it's still dreadful. I like the special/multi-channel effect but bass is too plump and lacks control/breathing and treble is "glassy and blurred". I previously also owed pre-LCI E46 with the top Hi-Fi upgrade and it was amazing, so I'm not sure what went wrong with BMW's ability to tune car audio but in recent years it has been very bad in my experience. In later E46's and E90's, BMW do not seem to understand the term Hi-FI, as extra-volume without distortion does not equal Hi-Fi, its only part of the solution which must also include tonal balance and frequency extension. I hope the F10 is better?

From CNET, which is a major electronics review website, the audio blog guy was at N.Y. show listening to manufacturer's high end stereo systems.
"The BMW 550i Gran Turismo's sound system topped them all. It had a more "open," less boxy sound than other car systems. The sound was lower in distortion, had clearer treble, and more accurate bass than any other car at the show. Really impressive, but I never figured out which company designed the sound system for the 550i. Kudos to the design team, whoever they are." Hopefully this will also apply to the F10. Somthing bothers me here, bmw.co.uk lists this option at LOGIC7 but I thought LOGIC7 was a Harman Kardon surround sound product so where does DIRAC fit in? I think bmw.co.uk have got it wrong, any ideas?

However, the information sheet shown to me by the dealer (with a graphical representation of the location of the 16 speakers) when I ordered the option is consistent with the translation from the bmw.de website, although there was no mention of the aluminium speaker cones. Dirac processing (and not Logic 7) was clearly mentioned. |

I have tested this option with a DVD with low frequency effects at high volume. Impressive sound, better than any car stereo I have heard (not that many, but including the E60, and better than many home cinema sound systems. I have ordered this for my car. |

LMOR, comparable to a B&O system in the Audi? For the E60, have you also heard the BMW Individual system (that also utilised Dirac technology but with higher total amplifier power - 825W) Thanks.

No, only read that it is not so good, but even if it was marginally better, it is much more expensive. So for the money, this one should be the choice anyway.
