Trip computer reset problem in 2011 535x
I'm wondering if anyone is aware of the problem of resetting the trip computer in 2011 5-series. Sometimes the trip computer is "frozen" and cannot be reset unless the car is completely stopped, engine turned off and turned on again after a few minutes. This is happening about 10% of the time. Not a big issue but can be annoying as one may want to check the trip statistics on the highway but find it to have stopped working.

Well, I was wondering how to reset the one on the instrument cluster in the first place (maybe you're talking about the same thing). I went into my iDrive and clicked reset trip computer multiple times and the cluster trip never zeroed out. How do I reset it (sorry, did not have enough time to study the manual yet, but I thought I was doing it right...)

Press "Menu", select "Vehicle Info", then "Trip Computer", and then "Reset". Normally this should work whether the car is moving or stationary. When the trip computer freezes, it generally does not respond to the reset sequence as well, until the engine is turned off, and turned back on after awhile (turning the engine back on immediately does not generally work).

Mine never got wiped out (the one on the instrument cluster). It sat there at 620kms and now approaching 900 it is just accumulating kilometers. I've used that procedure 2 or 3 times trying to get the darn thing to zero out. I thought maybe there was another way and the iDrive procedure only wipes out the iDrive vehicle info, not the trip odometer on the speedo panel. Beats me...

Oh, for the one on the intrument cluster, just push the small button at the lower-left corner of the cluster (right under the gas gauge), that will reset it.

oh, dang it, how could I forget it? Thanks, just too much info received during my new vehicle orientation. I knew I could not possibly remember everything. That's it! thanks again.
