R19 Runflats got bubbles! NEED HELP!
I have R19 runflats that come stock with BMW
Long story short... The day I got my F10 I hit a pretty bad pothole. Forgot to check the tire and then in 1-2 month I notice a pretty big bubble. Left front wheel. I have no choice and I go to the dealer to replace it. Paid $490 In 4-5 month it starts snowing and roads are sh*t, can't see anything. I hit another pothole. I stop check the tire and it has bubble again... Same left front = newest tire on my car. I was pretty pissed but had to go on a ski trip + bubble was getting big in 2 days so I got replace that tire. I also give a complaint to the city about road conditions to reimburse me for the tire, they said ok we will call you in 6-8 weeks. Fine... Last night. Snowing again, can't see sh*t. Roads are sh*t. Going around 40mph there is another 550 in front of me. I need an exit to I take right lane and hit a big pothole... It was never there before. I come home, check tires... Front and back right side tires have bubbles... You can't imagine how pissed I was. I am pretty sure they will get big in 2-3 days and I will need to replace them. And its $1000... I have no Tire protection and can not get it for my car anymore. Its 2012 Any suggestions? PS: I don't want to get regular tires because if I hit potholes and runflats get damaged, I can't imagine what will happen to regular tires.... PS2: I drive good, I am not hitting every pothole. And I always go no more than 10mph to pass bad road conditions. |

If I am not mistaken - regular tires are a lot more durable in terms of getting bubbles. But I'll wait for the experts in the forum to chime in.

Replace the tires with the new Bridgestone DriveGuard runflats. Reviewers from Consumer Reports, Motortrend, Autoweek, etc. say these new run-flats are equal to their conventional counterparts. Also, consider picking up a set 18's rather than 19's for winter driving.

Aren't low profile tires more apt of getting damaged when hitting deep potholes?
R19 is pretty low, R20 would be worst... And run flats have technically tougher sides... So I guess normal tires would get damaged faster? |

Have my Michelin Primacy's back on while my wheels are being refinished and the car goes in for the N63 inspection. No more than a couple thousand miles on them and not only noticed a bubble but their is a huge chunk missing from the inside wall. Have no idea how it happened. They sit in my shed 99% of the time. Expensive to replace. Even more than my 21" Michelin PSS's.

Those tires are borderline defective and known for excessive damage due to potholes. Complain to your BMW dealer. Do a "SEARCH" on here. Many have gotten Goodyear or their dealers to replace these for free or at deep discounts. My advice to you is to get rid of all 4 and go with a different brand. This will continue to happen to you.

http://www.goodyear.com/en-US/tire-warranty Then he asked me what tires and I told him, then he said our location does not carry them and you have to special order them which takes 3 months (don't believe), but BMW dealer has them in stock at the moment, but they told me to go to Good year. Then looked at my tires and told to come tomorrow to talk to a manager. But I will just call Good year customer service. PS: Rear tire is tearing apart... Front tire 2 bubbles got bigger. Have a road trip on Friday. Need new tires asap or I'll be drifting somewhere on the highway once those blowout |

BMW knows these tires are problematic. My buddy had to buy three new ones since he took ownership of his car last July. The dealer has been making him buy them at full price and then reimbursing him for 50% of the cost. Like I said, do some research and print out what you find and present it to them. My car is not X Drive so it came with the Michelin Primacy RF's, but one of thefirst things I did was to get rid of them. I run traditional tires now and have a space saver spare in my trunk. Runflats are terrible!

From my experience theres just not that much to do when you hit a pothole.
Well, maybe a smaller rim and bigger sidewall could help a little bit, but not much. There's so many variables to why a tyre breaks when hitting a pothole, size, angle, speed (not always good with lower speed), shape on the edge of the hole etc. etc. I have no clue how bad it is in the Boston, MA. area. But i'd say that continue to give complaints to the city about road conditions to get reimbursed is the best option. Not less irritating of course but at least they get to pay for not maintaining the roads properly. Hopefully you'll never hit a pothole again! I answered the same in the other thread you have about this here. When it comes to the GY LS2 tires i have no certain insight but Bake is probably right. Curious question in general: Are the all season tires really good at anything? Over here we try to avoid them as much as possible and working in the tire business in EU i usually tell people to avoid them no matter what brand. |

I just went through this last week. I just called goodyear customer service and opened a case. They sent me to my local store where they checked my claim. After a few arguments they gave me a deep discount on a new tire. I think the discount is based on the remaining thread depth. Worth a try.

The Bridgestone DriveGuard runflats list for a little over $300 each - pretty reasonable.

I just checked on them. $260 per tire. Might put 2 of them on the back wheels, put 2 LS2s I have in a good condition to the front. Would be ok right? Same size both runflats.

Yep. Although the Goodyears would last longer on the rears.

Its the Good Year Eagle LS2, they are probably some of the worst constructed tires I have ever owned. When I bought my 5 series, I ask the dealer to swap them out to the Conti tires. I also drive in Boston and have never had a problem with sidewall bubble, but I have 18" tires. Low profile tires and the roads in the Northeast just do not mix well.

Several others had same issue with these tires. Maybe others are better, I don't know, but I had same issue with these Goodyears even with 18" rims. For what it's worth, I also hated how they handled (especially on wet) and would not buy them again at 1/4 of the original cost. |

I'm on 20" Dunlop runflats and for the front they wanted $590 in which they said included a discount Lol! I just bought the car and it had a bubble on the drivers front side tire. I have tire and wheel coverage but they said it doesn't cover bubbles on sidewalls.
