BMS N55 Intake Review

Whats up guys, just wanted to give a mini review on the BMS N55 intake for the F10. First off this is the 4th product I've ordered through BMS since owning my E90 and now F10 and I've yet to be dissapointed. I ordered it last week Thursday morning 8/1/13 and received it 8/2/13 noon time (pays to live in so cal sometimes LOL) the next day. Upon opening it up I noticed how nicely packaged it was (See pic below). It came with a few items:

Intake crazyWTF#!$ tube
Air filter (which can be cleaned and maintained with K&N filter recharging system)
And a nicely done bracket with BMS logo on it

I didn't bother taking too many pics of it cause the ones on the website do it justice. Installation literally took me less than 10 minutes but I can do it now in 5 mins. As far as after install results goes, I was very pleased with the product. Great craftsmanship and the fit and finish is awesome. After the install I still had the hood popped and fired her up. Revving the engine past 3k made a nice woosh blow off sound! While driving you can definitely here your turbo spool up now. For a while I almost forgot the F10 was turbocharged lol up until now. Pop the transmission in sport mode, go for a drive and shift past 3k you will hear the blow off sound in between shifts. Under mid to hard throttle your intake noise will be more throaty and sporty sounding. Yes your F10 will no longer sound like a Prius! Under normal driving you would never know it was there. As far as butt dyno goes, it's very hard to feel an extra 5-10 whp especially on a car with massive curb weight but for what it's worth I did notice a little increase in mid range power. I would definitely recommend it.

Is the filter an oiled filter or dry filter?

It's oiled, so you can use the K&N filtercharging kit on it.

Nice write up. I too agree that it's well worth the $. It sounds great and it noticeably sharpens up the performance.

Il also very happy, and ashamed, that I saw your pic of the mounting bracket lol. I totally missed it in the peanut packing and drove around for a day without it lol

Still on the fence Worried about heat soaking specially here in florida since it has been near the 100f temperature...
does anyone has any dyno with just the Jb4 on map5 ?

LOL I did the same at first so I just dumped out the entire contents on my floor and found it, but cleaning up all the peanuts off the ground sucked lol

Has heat soak ever been a problem for before? Under normal driving conditions I don't think you'll even notice unless you race your f10 at a track where you will need optimum performance. Over the weekend I drove the car through the desert 95 degree's an didn't notice any issues with heat soak.

Most likely you wont notice much (buttdyno) but a real log and proper dyno may give us the answer. In traffic I can image the car is just brathing all that hot air from the engine..evne if it moves...the hot air still under the hood and out IC is not big enough to cool all of that...thus reducing your HP gains..IMHO

true, only real way to find out is to do back to back dyno's on the same day with the same temperature. But I think people blow "heat soak" out of proportion sometimes. Even so, you wouldn't be able to notice the 2-3 hp loss due to it (if that). Keep in mind though, with the BMS intake, it still utilizes the "cold air" drawn from the bottom part of the stock air box.

right...at least it is protected with the bottom of the airbox and channels the air directly to the filter..compared ot the old DCI where it was completely open and getting heat from every corner

Mine's in. Didn't feel any noticeable any gains, but you can definitely hear the turbos now.

Not sure if it is worth the money.

Do you have a tune ? normally if you dont , you wont feel any difference besides the whoosssh sound...with a tune and the added PSI,, the engine needs more air thus providing more HP

Very true, if you have a tune this is a perfect "contributing mod" to compliment the JB4.

Really!! umm sometimes I wonder if a drop in filter for jut $45 does something close to the CAI for performance

I had the drop in just prior to this install and I can feel the difference with my Stage 1. It's not a huge difference but it does sharpen everything up and the sound is great.

with the drop-in you might want the BMS intake later. but with the BMS you will never care for the drop-in. so go with the $200 and save yourself $50.. I installed my BMS intake last night and loving it.

I just ordered mine. Should go well with the downpipe, jb4 stage 2, exhaust and prototype intercooler.
