550 Stage 2 vs 535 Stage 2 turbo

I've been comparing the two and looking at the numbers this could be a pretty close 1/4 mile. Here's the idea so far:

550xi N63: BMS Stage 2, Catless downpipes, 93 octane

535xi N55: Stage 2 Turbo, Full bolt on, also 93 octane

Both are making roughly 450whp, and the 535 is roughly 300lbs lighter. The N63 though has the advantage of displacement which makes the power sooner.

Has anyone tracked a 535xi with turbo upgrade?

is this some theoretical race youre just putting together based on no real data, or do you actually have two cars in the same area from the same dyno that plan to eventually race?

I would like to see too those dyno, especially the one for the 535I since stage 2 JB4 535I barely it the 300whp so the stage 2 turbo upgrade would have to net you 150whp over non turbo stage 2.

I have seen 435i making good power but they always seems to reach much more WHP vs the 535I with similar modifications. My guess is that to reach 450whp reliably and consistently you will have to invest good money on the 535i. Show me a stage 2 535I car baseline dyno and stage 2 turbo upgrade delta of 150whp and I will be impressed for sure!

If you even have the chance to make real life comparison please share!

Sorry...I could not understand what you're trying to say here the grammer is all over the place especially at the end when u mentioned a non Turbo stage 2?

Also, I've already contacted PureTurbo and the upgrade for the N55 will not work for the F10. He said they have a different Turbo upgrade for the F10 which will still put up impressive #'s same price still. I will post the email and all the info he gave me.

I've read and read all through the forums and just anything related to the power of the 535 and in the end it just seems like our turbo for the 535 is just too small. Even with a flash tune and not a piggyback the gains we're good...but not impressive after I complete my exterior mods this Turbo upgrade will be my next on my performance upgrade to-do list!

Yep! They will confuse u there as they say it's the same motor but it won't work on a 535. Like I posted above that's why I made an inquiry to PureTurbo's and they said they have a different Turbo upgrade for the 535's

So the one on their site is not the one they actually have for the 535?

Correct! It is for an N55... just not the N55 on a 535. Hope that makes sense.

Email from PureTurbos:

Hi Gene,

Your turbo is different than the 135/335 turbo but we do have our STG2 available for your vehicle also.

First thing is no more 89, these engines crave octane so if you want to run pump gas only you need the highest octane you can find(91/93/100. JB4 is the easiest to tune on these vehicles. The stock fuel system is fine until you want to run higher quantities of ethanol. The higher the octane the more boost you can run and the more you will get out of the STG2 turbo. High flow cats or catless downpipes are another upgrade we recommend to get the most from the turbo.

Our turbo is 100% bolt on, no modification required. On 91 you can run 15-17psi which is around 420-450whp to redline. The addition of meth would put you over the 500WHP mark. The turbo is $2500 plus $775 core deposit.

My warranty is up in February 2016. When the turbo starts smoking from seals my upgrade will be pure stage 2. My e90 my turbos were replaced at 79k miles under BMW extended coverage just for turbos which is up to 80k miles and the hpfp up 120k.

Ill be all over this when the times right. Its a no brainer! U figure people are paying $2g's for a dinan tune when you could go with a Turbo upgrade. On top of that with a custom flash tune and not a piggyback..DP's, exhaust and the kitchen sink a 535 could be a total sleeper. I've dropped $ in motor builds and Turbo kits $10k easily...this is a sweet deal!

Hey guys sorry for going mia, I thought I had this thread set to email me when there was action, guess not.

So the question still stands, which one do you think will make it down the 1/4 faster, 550xi Stage 2 tune or 535xi Stage2 turbo?

The more I look at it the more it seems how close this race would be. The N63 hits 450wtq at only 2,700rpm so that's gonna be tough to beat. I wonder how much the added weight slows it down though.

Here are the two charts I'm looking at:

good question but dynos are just dynos. only way to know is track times and how good of a driver you are when it comes to reaction times? the 550i is a heavier car but i don't know how much heavier?
