I agree, you have been unlucky. The lease co will sort it all out if BMW dont do it perfectly.

At BMW's and the dealers defence, the fault only comes to light when the car is driven. Manoeuvring around at low speed is not a problem so the fault didn't come to light driving off the production line, driving onto transport, manoeuvre ring around the dealership etc. I don't think it's practical for the dealer to take out a new car for an extensive test drive to test all the systems - as an owner I wouldn't want the dealer putting miles on the car just to test for what is, in essence, a very rare occurrence and shouldn't happen.
The PDI should include a road test - my 530 had 14 miles showing (they do have the option via Factory menu of resetting on a new car - see other threads) - otherwise what has manifested itself would never be detected!

Todays manufacturing processes are near bullet-proof, but ELFs do occur .... hence why a road test is included in the PDI. If your problem had occured after a few hundred miles fair enough, but its obvious it was sitting there waiting for you to find on the journey home ....

Hope your Leasing Co. gets it sorted satisfactorily for all parties ....

Thanks for that, I'd always wondered how they manage to rack up so many miles just by shunting the car around on and off transport. Had 12 miles on it when I collected it.

So, they either didn't do a road test, did one but chose to ignore the issue or did one and didn't notice the issue (highly unlikely!).

So, they've given me this until my car has its gearbox transplant.

Should keep me going till the end of next week, I s'pose (lovely car, good chance to have a play with Pro Media).
