For me even if fuel cost was the same, I like not having to fill up as often, especially in the winter. Based on my math, I will pay for the $1500 extra the diesel car costs within one year (20,000km). About $0.10/litre less for fuel (compared to 91 octane) plus 30% increased milage compared to my 535xi. Also the petrol and diesel cars drive differently. After 3years with the 535xi and now 2 months with the 535xd, I definitely prefer the drive of the diesel. Tons of torque! It is a personal preference.

My 335d is the first diesel I have ever owned, and after driving it for 20 months now. I love it. I will never drive a petrol engine again. unless. I am given no choice. I love it when I step on the pedal, and get that instant gratification from the rapid acceleration, and on top of that I am averaging 31.4 mpg.
