R1 Cross Drilled Rotors F10 550i xDrive

Good news.....

R1 Concepts just released front only cross drilled, slotted and cross drilled/slotted rotors for F10 550i xDrive....Rears will be available soon.

My 2011 F10's front rotors are shot at only 19k. Warped like hell and it ruins the ride all together.....of course the 1/4 track didnt help the cause...lol

I ordered the R1 premium front cross drilled rotors and posi-quiet pads last week and they shipped yesterday. They are getting installed at the dealer next friday so I will take some pics and advise on how they are once I bed them in. They cost $530 shipped and you can talk to Andrew at ************** if anyone is interested.

I recently ordered R1 premium cross drilled rotors with stoptech pads for my 2009 Jeep SRT8 and they are awesome....no complaints..much better than factory and they look awesome. The hub and rotor edges are powdercoated so they dont rust like the factory crap.

Spending lets say $7000 on Brembo BBK really hurts....Hopefully this will do the job...obviously not the same job but its painful to spend BBK money on a leased car....

Any idea if 550 rotors differ in size with 535?

Yes, 535 rotors are smaller but you should call R1 because I bet you they have 535 rotors already. Usaully the 535 aftermarket stuff is released prior to 550.

Just curious but why would going to the drag strip hurt your rotors? Look forward to seeing the brakes.

Dont you have free maintenance? Or do you just want to put aftermarket rotors?

Yea I do but the brakes have never really been so great...With Dinan S2 and exhaust, the car is way too fast for the brakes. Upgraded rotors and pads will make it a little better and they should last a bit longer.

going from 120+MPH to zero in a short distance at the end of the track time after time will warp your rotors.....

Are you using all the run off room? I've been going to the track with higher powered cars with smaller brakes for years and never had a problem. I often see people slam their brakes on and use one of the earlier exit points instead of going all the way down and never have understood it, why kill the brakes? Not saying that's what you do but if you are, letting it coast for a bit and using the whole track will prevent problems.

The difference in performance is not worth loosing the warrantee over. If you really need to upgrade the brakes get a BBK.

I always use the last exit and I never keep the pedal applied more than a few seconds and release and do it all over again. Its not my first car....

I had a 2005 E55 AMG with factory cross drilled and a 2010 M5 with factory cross drilled and never had an issue with either car....Both cars went to the track as well.

The 2011 F10 550i xDrive just doesnt have good brakes...pretty simple...Even though I got the M-Sport package, brakes are not upgraded like the M....

The trade off is 550i xDrive versus M5.....I prefer the xdrive....

One more thing...The rotors feel ok slowing down from 60MPH to 40MPH..The problem is going from like 120+MPH down to 80MPH...this is where its feels sketchy...

I agree...If these rotors dont make me feel comfortable...bbk it is....the worse thing is a really fast car that cant stop....Plus the bbks look amazing....

Pretty sad that my Jeep SRT8 comes stock with Brembos and stops better than my F10....

Middly, you are going to be quite disappointed with your brake setup! 1/4 mile runs will not produce enough surface gases on the rotor face to merit the use of cross-drilled or slotted rotors. I can see if you were on the track, where the constant application of your brakes would get things hot enough to experience gas-fade but this would not occur on the drag strip!! Another issue to consider is your choice of PosiQuiet Semi-Metallic pads. The Posi's have the exact same temperature threshold as the OE pad compound used by TRW, Pagid and Jurid; the vendors who manufacturer stock pads for our BMW's.

This setup will not improve your braking at all on a drag strip! The rotors will look very nice, but your stopping distances will not improve with the driving scenarios you described. Instead of the PosiQuiet pads, you might want to try a slightly more aggressive brake compound. Not many companies have pads for our cars but EBC has Green/Yellow/Red compound pads which will give you better bite on those new slotted rotors. I would go with the Greenstuff pads because the blended compound will provide better stopping in the winter months over a set of full ceramic or track pads!

Now if you want to spend the $$$$$, check out the Brembo Kit from Turner Motorsports. I would also check to see if BMW makes M-Performance brake upgrade available for our cars.

Good luck,

Will aka The Swami

So the rotors and pads were changed out on Friday and the dealer found out that both outer brake pads were cracked in half.....No wonder the brakes felt like shit...New rotors and pads are on but in process of bedding them in. The car feels like new again. I will post a few pics and advise on how they work soon.

was able to get the car out today and gauge the bite on the new rotors. I would say that its 50% better than stock which is pretty good in my book. Very happy with the new rotors and pads....especially for $800 installed....I finally feel like I can stop when I need to now....

Hey Midly did you ever get rears for the car to match the fronts? Also where can I find these R1 rotors to order? Any contact info? Vendor?
