Is it worth buying my end of lease f10, your thoughts ?

My 2011 f10 2.0 msport lease is due in December with a purchase price of £13,500.

The car will be on around 80,000 miles by then with full dealer history and looking at the service computer will have nearly new brake discs and a newish set of tyres all round

It is a 2011 (60 plate) 2.0 m sport, non sat nav with the following spec
Oyster / black interior
Antharite trim
I pod control
Cruise control
Tinted windows
Shadowline external trim
Rear lip spoiler
Black kidney grills

I will be buying it for my wife who will do 6000 miles pa max

At the moment she has a 2012 vauxhall Zafira which will sell for around £9,000

The zafira will depreciate quickly compared to the bmw

Would you do it?

Having had a Zafira as a hire car for a few days once, I'd drive pretty much anything else in preference, it was nasty Can't really comment on the price with regard to mileage and spec, but your BMW is a lot further down the depreciation curve, so it's likely to be the sensible financial choice, and you know its history. Also, it's probably more economical. Of course, they are quite different cars, and wouldn't normally be considered by the same buyer. Perhaps that could be the stumbling block.

Thanks fir your response and i totally agree with the zafira, its a horrible car ! It was my wife's choice and her business has paid for it. Its very rare i would even sit in it if i could help it!

From a finance point, in 2 years the 5 series would be 5 years old with around 85k on the clock which i would imagine would be worth a lot more than a 3 1/2 year old Zafira with 20k on the clock would be

Thinking i could then use it as a weekend / family car and get a really cheap company car (mondeo or insignia at a guess) that i don't have to worry about trying to keep clean and nice like i do with the bmw

Add to this i haven't yet seen a f10 msport under £19k from the brief look i have had

If you are happy with the BMW, it's a no-brainer. It's a good place on the depreciation curve, you are not taking any risk on the history (unlike the normal case of buying a 3-year-old car where you don't know how it has been treated), and the residual values are conservative so this is a (relative) bargain.

If you like the car, which you obviously do, go for it. The end payment, as has been said, is invariably conservative and the car is good for many more miles yet. Just remember that you will be servicing it which may be somewhat more expensive than the Zafira, although with the mileage you quote that it is likley to be doing, this might not be the case.

Thanks for your input, i hear you on the servicing however i am tempted to go to a specialist after it hits 75k on the bmw which will be cheaper than bmw dealer. With the zafira being under a year old id prob keep that with dealer servicing for a few more years if i was keeping it

Im hoping to an extent that will compensate me

If you like the car, and you have looked after it...then I would go for it

BUT, I would get an extended warranty (buy 3 years you can, cheaper than year by year).... Then it's not just servicing to worry about, big jobs cost lots of money (I had the same pain with an Audi A4, and wish I had)...

The Lease company must do a full check before it's sold too, get evidence of that, and make sure they make good any issues (including paint and windows)
