LED or Xenon ?

I am about to order the new 2014 5 series (F10 LCI)
Is the Adaptive LED really that much better than the standard Xenons?

I currently have Adaptive Xenons on my 2012 F10 and am quite happy with these, are the LED headlights really a step above the Xenons?

Any real life experience, anyone?

Well if I were ordering a F10 today and had the money to spend on LED headlights (adaptive) I would go for it.
If you look at this, I think this will make up your mind.

I thought I read somewhere that they are rather expensive though.

I have seen the video before and it does look mighty impressive. The differential cost is about £900 (as the Xenons are now standard but Adaptive Xenons+High Beam is an additional £540… and the Adaptive LED pack is about £1400).

I guess I'll order it...

I have had new LED on 2013 f02 for one month. First, I am not sure if they have all of the tech conveyed in that video---can anyone confirm?

Second, there is a hard truth about these new LED headlights: They look badass. But, they are not as good as xenon. I was in the country on a dark road for 20 miles this weekend. Yes, they illuminate the road. But, the lack of yellow in the bulb makes it harder to see things.

I would have gotten them for the squared off angel eyes alone but that video seals the deal for me in terms of any future Bmw i may own and offers LED headlights.

Good feedback. When you say that the LED is not as good as Xenon - do you mean the colour or the overall brightness?
Is it the (relatively) yellowish tinge of Xenon that you prefer over the (relatively) bluish tinge in LED?

My query is are you not satisfied by the temperature (colour) of the light or by the luminosity (perceived brightness) of light?

Well, just as we attenuate 500 to 1000 cycles to assist the ear in hearing more music, the frequency of these bulbs are centred in an area where the eye naturally attenuates the brightness to help you see better in broad daylight.

So, the bulbs are plenty bright. But, in reflection, the images are appear hollow rather than the opaqueness you get from xenon.

The yellow frequencies cause your eye to respond better.

Even so, I would buy them again for the awesome look it gives the car.

Xenon produce a wider spectrum of colors, not just white light. White LEDs produce a very narrow spectrum of light, so it wouldn't be as practical to light up multiple color surfaces. Regardless, I would go LEDs for the latest and greatest gadget/look.

I have the LED lights on my new 6 Series. Quite a bit brighter and whiter than the Xenons on my old 535i. There's a larger light pattern on the road in front. They also look a lot better. Go for it!

What's the reach of the LEDs then , as good or better than Xenon?

The new "adaptive" LEDs do not have this tech - at least in the US. The DOT has dis-allowed it until they can study it further. The "adaptive" feature that we'll get is the turning feature similar to the current adaptive Xenons. Anyone else getting pissed off at how our tax dollars are spent?

On the more important note - get the LEDs. They look cool and why else do we pay for all this technology that we never knew we just had to have!!
