Dinan 550i S1 15% off
checked out the Dinan site this weekend and they are running a 15% off special through the end of October. Stage 1 tune for the 550i F10 looks like its included.
I'll call them tomorrow and ask - that would save about $450

good news
talked to Scott with Dinan today and yes the 550i Stage 1 tune is part of the 15% special. Your authorized Dinan dealer will take it off the price. He also mentioned they are working on suspension, intake and exhaust upgrades for the F10

Wow, Stage 2 in now available, 501hp - 580ft/lbs
Improved low end with boost coming on strong in first and second gears from Dinan: After many hours for further research, tuning and testing we have improved on our hugely popular Stage 1 Performance Software. Our team was able to make Stage 2 much faster by improving turbo response across the power-band. This tuning is especially noticeable in the first two gears, now catapulting the car off the line. Tuned for a smooth power-band to put down predictable and even power in all gears and throttle positions. This smoothness improves the quality of the shifting and the overall drivability. From a standing start (with the traction control fully disengaged) all it takes is the press of the throttle to the floor to get the tires spinning. The everyday practicality of a full size sedan with the fun of a sports car, this is the definition of "Performance Without Sacrifice".

Maybe some folks with Stage 1 could weigh in on their opinions of the low end torque on the current tune.

In my opinion, Dinan should not even call this as a S2, they are simply correcting the slight flaw on S1 by adjusting the power delivery from mid range to low range, given that there is immaterial gain of hp & tq. For $500 for something like this adjustment is not justified, but then I am sure there are other die hard Dinan fans will totally disagree by suggesting for just $500, what more do you want type of response. To me, if Dinan is charging that much for a S1, they should simply provide the necesary tech support & software update at N/C.
I guess if you are happy with this S2, then that's what matter the most. Last edited by bobblehead; 09-09-2011 at 10:10 AM.. |

I'd also like to see the hp/tq curves of both stages, but I agree, this should have been something included in the S1 for no additional charge or offered as a free update to current S1 owners. To call this Stage 2, charge another $500 and only add a couple HP/tq is kind of a joke.

I had the Dinan Stage 2 installed today, and it's no joke --- totally different car with much more power and torque off the line. Before, you felt the most power and torque from 60-100mph, and now you can feel it all the way from the start --- amazing.
I haven't had much time to play with it since I had to go back to work, but I'll write more later as I have some fun in the car. I can tell now, my rear Michelins aren't going to last very long. |

So you had S1 and upgraded or went straight to S2?

We're happy with Stage 1! For the 6 extra hp and extra bit of tq, throw that toward some AR Downpipes!
