Registering out of State Car in CALI

I posted in the M6 forums, but I figured I'll post it here as there are more people in the forum who may be able to help.

I'm getting a few different answers from work and wanted to see what the rule really is in CA. So I bought my M6 out of state and now I need to register it in CA. I was told no smog by a few but some ppl told me I need smog before registration. It is 2014 M6 GC with 5500 miles. According to DMV site, any vehicle with less than 7500 miles is considered NEW, and I understand new vehicles don't need smog. Anyone care to chime in?

There's a link about halfway down for vehicles that are exempt from smog checks here in CA and it looks like you just pay a fee in lieu of a smog check for cars less than 6 years old.

I saw that from the DMV site. I called them, however, and the "lady" said I do need a smog...

IIRC, ANY car bought out of state to be registered in The People's Republik of Kalifornia must be smogged, regardless of model year. When we moved back to TPR in '88 we brought in an '86 MY car and had to have it smogged.

The weather ain't worth it!!
