Brake Dust

Hey everyone. I got my new (new to me) 2011 AW 550 about a month ago. I had a question. I have had several BMW in the past. X5,335,135 and all had pretty bad brake dust problems. Especially my 135. This new 550 has VERY little brake dust. I am extremely happy about this because its such an annoyance to have dirty rims. Since I purchased this car CPO'd I do not know if the previous owner changed outage brake pads to low brake dust pads. For those who purchased brand new, are you seeing lots of brake dust or has BMW just improved on its brake pad technology?

Thanks

I put black rims since I bought the car but
two weeks ago I put on silver AG 21" rims
and noticed little brake dust since I haven't
washed car since install. I was expecting more
dust than this so I'm not complaining

My 2012 535 have little brake dust, I can go weeks without cleaning the rims. I think BMW change over to the low dust material on the F10.

I think there is a correlation between reduced brake dust and longer lasting brakes.

I've noticed that too. Compared to my E39, the F10 has very little dust.

They definitely changed brake pads, F10 is much cleaner than other BMWs I've owned. That said, the brakes don't feel as great or bite like the older ones did. I guess that's the trade off.

Yes ceramic pads vs semi metallic.

My 2011 535 has terrible brake dust. Maybe when I get the first replacement pads they will be the low dust ones.

My 2012 550i has almost no brake dust. Coming from an Infiniti M which also had almost no brake dust I was not looking forward to having filthy wheels in between washings like I see on so many older BMW's. But much to my surprise, brake dust is almost non-existent. Since it almost never rains here it has been months since I washed the car and wheels still look clean other than the normal road grime you always get.

I did notice this. I actually took my car for service and ask them to check the brakes. Thought they needed replacing. SA said they were ok

I love the new brake pads on F10, it last weeks before it shows dusts.
E60 last a couple of days.
