Issues with iPhone 6 and Pro Nav 2013 LCI
Got my new 530d M Sport touring Sports Auto on the drive (Approved used 2013 plate and LCI model). Very nice - will post pics and better review up later. For now let's just say she is superb!
One issue came to light though on the long drive home yesterday and that's regarding the iPhone integration. The Car has Pro Nav and I have an iPhone 6 but do not have any snap ins, I just use a USB cable. On my old car - a F11 520d 2011 - I just plugged it in and went; the iDrive and the little wheel on the right of the steering wheel would always be in sync and you could scroll for track and then press that button on the steering wheel. On the new car they are not in sync - Main display and little display on the console are not in sync. Also, I cannot seem to skip tracks - I can slect and press for the track but it will not play, and worse, I have to start the play sequence from pressing the iPhone's own screen itself. Dangerous and useless, I want to be able to do this from the car controls - thats the whole point! Car has the Connected Drive and Internet Apps features too and it prompted me to install an app on the iPhone which I did but have not yet had the time to play with. I am sure this is a case of RTFM but any immediate thoughts please from the oracle that is this board? Thanks! |

This sounds strange, have you tried updating the cars USB/Bluetooth software: http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/con...re_update.html

Sure I saw a thread somewhere on here about issues with playing music post iOS8 (found it http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1074183) where the feedback was that updating the car to it's most recent version helped.
On this subject can I ask a dumb question, are you connecting using the Lightning cable or do you need to use the 30pin to lightning adapter to do the Digital to Audio conversion? (I don't have a USB connector in my e91 and forgot a cable when I did my test drives)

Ok guys, I will check into that, I've never done this before, not even on my previous BMW's. I've never needed to as I am not one for "being on the latest" unless there is a clear need to do so and I have never had that need. I must say thought I was noticing some oddities post iOS 8.1 on my old car as well. How long does the update take to do?
Yes jaimey, I'm using the Lightning cable connected from iPhone 6 directly to the USB port in the armrest. I can get a track to play - so that would appear to negate any need for external DAC's etc - but lots of fiddling required. The car does not control the phone correctly.

That will probably depend on how many updates need to be done. The last time I updated mine, it took less than a minute, but then the car was very new. If yours hasn't been updated for a while it may take longer, but I don't imagine it will be excessive.

Couple of minutes... doesn't matter how old the previous version is. Updates are not progressive updates; every update file works from the factory version upwards.
Just remember to shutdown the car, lock it, wait a few minutes, and then restart it to see any changes.

Latest update is UPD05021, Feb 2014. So nothing since iOS 8 came out.

I have this issue sometimes with my iPhone 5 in my car. I have to restart the phone and then it will play. Doesn't happen often but when it does I get all the artwork and track time etc, but it won't play the track. It's fine after a phone reboot.
