New UK 535D F11 '64' reg now or pay +£900 for '15'reg in March?

I have a 535d F11 about to arrive at my UK dealer.

I'm considering whether to take it immediately and therefore get the current "64" UK registration or wait until next month and get the new "15".
The catch is I'd need to pay an extra £900 for the dealer to hold the car to be a "15" March registration.
The car is a factory order to my spec, not a cancelled order offered to me.
The initial deal was a special price offered for ordering and taking the car quickly. It should have been a 2014 "64" car and the dealer has been really decent throughout the process and has already rolled this over to be a 2015 car.

This is a private cash purchase & I'm likely to keep the car for maybe 5 years at which time it'll have done perhaps 50000 miles.

I'm not bothered about being one of the first to have the new registration, so that aspect is of no particular value to me.
So deciding which way to go comes down solely to resale value.

If I compound at, lets say, 2% over 5 years the £900 initial difference leads to a wider gap of £1000.
So it comes down to this: At 5 years old is a 15 plate 535d F11 likely to be worth more than £1000 more than if it was 1 month older and 64 plate?
I suspect the answer is no - the gap will be less than that.

Your thoughts please - do I go for the current 64 plate or pay £900 more and wait a month for the new 15 plate?

No. Will make no difference at all.

PS It will be a 15 plate, not 16

Oh yes, thanks... poor proofreading on my part. Now corrected.

The only reason for waiting in my mind is if you wanted a 15 personal plate, but if you are not bothered, then it will make no difference registered a few days/weeks earlier in a few years time.

Thanks for your response.

I guess I will take the car now, with a 64 plate.

All that remains then is to keep telling myself that I *really* don't care about not having a 15 plate...

In 5 years time the dealer will turn around and say something like people don't see it as a 2015 car as it has a 64 plate. I would wait and pay £900! People are more likely to think the car is newer and therefore a higher resale price with a 15 plate

Why not just shove on a very cheap private plate, and the problem goes away.....

As stated above, I would save your £900 and put a cheap ageless plate on it. It will then be a 2015 car when people ask. Plates can be had for as little as £350 all in from DVLA, or there is an auction coming up soon if you fancy something a bit special.

Maybe, but sometimes life is too short. If they dont get you on that it will be, the wrong colour combo, the vital piece of kit is does'nt have etc etc.

If it was free, I would agree with you, but £900 is more of a piss take than £1000 for a sunroof

Buy this plate. Send the forms to the dealer and get them to fit it!

Double win.

The difference in value in 5 years time would be less than £900 and would probably get lost in the deal somewhere I.e. Discount on the next car.

Not really sure why people still get so hung up on the numbers on a plate. The car is a 2015 regardless of the registration numbers. Only organisations like cap and glasses make money from it by suggesting there ought to be a difference in price.
