According to KBB, trade in value for that car is $37000. I would say the dealer wants to make very healthy profit off that car. I would give them $2000 above trade in, $39000.

I would treat the purchase and trade-in as separate negotiations and evaluate them as such, especially for the purpose of getting opinions on this board.
A good deal on the 528 and a bad deal on the trade-in is a bad deal.

I would stay away from KBB. Assume the Dealer bought the car at auction (Wholesale Black Book) for about 35k and give him 1k for CPO. Start there and negotiate up in small increments. As always, don't let the Dealer know that you're highly interested and inform him/her that you're exploring options at other dealerships.

"Now at 27000"??? That means nothing. Like someone already mentioned, the trade in and the selling price should be negotiated separately. The way you describe the transaction is absolutely the worst way to look at a car purchase

And yes, 44k is very high for the car you describe. I wouldn't pay more than $38k

Possibly good purchase but what did you get for your trade in of the 3 series? Did you owe on it or was it owned outright with you having title in hand? Any equity otherwise? $40k may be a good deal but there are some missing items numbers here to evaluate it. IF said dealer dropped the price from $44-40k BUT say gave you less for your trade and rolled the cash to offset that $4k then it isn't so great a deal. Details please if you want more input.

Congrats! You will enjoy your new wheels.

What you paid and whether it was a good deal are now in your rear view mirror, so to speak.
