Need Help - Car Won't Go Into Drive!

Well, I really screwed up trying to get the iDrive to reboot. Note, the iDrive was half-@ss working,...sometimes it would be on,..with radio, etc., and many times it wouldn't,...but it was constantly in a loop of trying to start up if it didn't come on initially when the vehicle was started.

So, I decide to trying to assist the iDrive 'boot process' by disconnecting something at the fuse panel,...and see what happens. Well, something happened alright, ...in this case,...I bricked the car. The "convenience system" no longer works, so the doors won't react to "Lock / Unlock". I also have insert the keyfob into the slot in order to start the car, and when it starts,...it appears that every idiot light (...all lit up for me,..the idiot) in the instrument cluster is on,....4x4, Airbag,...Brake,...Engine Gear, etc., and guess what,..no iDrive!

See arrows in photo. These were disconnected while the car was running!

:-(

Any advice offered would be greatly appreciated!

Put everything back together, disconnect (negative battery terminal) for 1 minute and reconnect. Hope this works.

I did try the battery disconnect,...didn't wait a minute though! Trying now,...as soon as I find a jacket,...the temps are dropping in Northern VA.

Also,...I pulled every single fuse,...none were blown!

Well,...I tried the 'battery disconnect'! Left it disconnected for more the 6 minutes! Nothing,....no response to 'Convenience' programming,...that is, if I'm performing it correctly,..and all idiot lights are still on,....for me! :-(

Oh well....

Edit; Still won't get out of "P" (Park)! :-(

Have you cleared all of the codes and rescanned with a BMW scanner? If you can at least identify what module is bad, you could source that yourself and just have it reprogrammed.

GatorB8,....I have no scanner,...etc.; therefore, I'm screwed!

Edit: I was hoping to at least avoid a tow truck bill. Rest assured,...I won't be fooling around the fusebox again!

There are some laptop based programs available that can use an OBD to USB cable. I use the Foxwell 510 available under the Schwaben brand name from ECS Tuning.

Are you part of your local BMW CCA club on facebook? That could be a good source of someone local that would let you borrow one.

Here's an update on why my "vehicle wouldn't go into drive" dilemma! Well,...I had the car towed to a BMW dealer and at first the issue had them "stumped",...as they could not figure out what was ailing my car,...as in, why it would't go into drive! Well,...let it be known, they discovered that one of the connectors,...that I had disconnected did not "seat" 100% when I reconnected it! Thus, the vehicle wouldn't go into "Drive"! I even had to send them the photo,...the same photo posted in this thread! So, if you don't want to "jack-up" your late model BMW! Don't be fooling around the fusebox! Unless you absolutely know what the heck you're doing! This fiasco of mine cost me $200!

Now for the other issue! It'll cost $2169 to have the iDrive fixed! I was told that it comes with a 2-year warranty!

I tell you....these cars really suck when they go down. The dealer also stated that there was an oil leak near the oil filter housing gasket area,...wants $1124.00 to fix! I simply said,...I don't think so! It's not leaking oil on the pavement,...and the oil level has yet to go below "Full"! So, I will consider this $1,124 saved,...for now!

I know I will need new tires by next Summer,....so I hope to put on some 50-80 miles for any more major expenditures,...if not,...then this E60 would have been my worst BMW ever! For me,...it's all about "ROI"!

...cheers!

Not that I recommend having the service done at the dealer, but on some models the OFHG leak can drop onto the drive accessory belt causing it to fail, and the failed belt can penetrate the front crank seal and cause internal engine damage.

Now you have a quote with the part numbers they are replacing, right? Check online and see if you can't save some money ordering yourself.

Thank you,...use to own E28 5'er (535is),...performed all required maintenance from A-Z! I'm sure (hopefully), I can replace an OHFG,...especially with the assistance of YouTube.

Note,...the leak can't be that bad,...as there is no oil drops in the driveway,...and the oil level has not changed from full since I've been the owner! So, if it's leaking,...it's very minute,...or, it could be some other cause for the OFHG to have residual oil around it.

All the same,...Ty Vm!
