Android OS and BMW
I like to know if anyone knows if BMW are going to support the Android OS devices.
I know that Apple got there first but as the F10 is going to be driven by a lot of professionals who would prefer not to just follow the crowd but go for real performance in their devices as well. |

Unfortunately "partial" seems to be the key word for all phones when related to support, or at least I still have to find one (on the BMW Bluetooth compatibility web page) that has all the "bullets" green. |

Paired my Desire with the f10 and it's working fine. Btooth/usb audio connection to the phone is also ok, though it sounds really cheap when I listen to tunes by btooth from my htc (hifi pro).

My Droid Incredible has issues. If I push accept Device accessing my phonebook from my phone, it will disconnect. If I just leave it and don't accept or no accept then it works fine however, it will keep on asking every couple of mins. Very annoying.

I have the HTC desire Z (android).
-Office functions do not work at all -Navigation to contacts impossible -Save contact file in car impossible (or 1 by 1 and only name and phone...) -Synchronization (+/- 350 contacts) starts every time again I enter the car and is slow (>2 minutes before I can make a call) -Synchronization contains errors (for example John Mc Enroe would become "Mc, John" in the car. This is all quite frustrating, since according to BMW's compatibility list, all these things should work fine. I hear the same issues from people with other android phones. I would also like to get what I've paid for.... |

As far as I can see, according to the BMW site (BT compatibility) HTC Desire should not have Office working at all.
There is no mention of the Desire Z. Is there another, more up-to-date compatibility list? |

Have Driod2 Global paired with my F10 via bluetooth. Works fine. The only problem I encountered: The Android system linked all my contact - Linked In, Facebook, email, and phone contacts - into it's default contact folder that gets loaded each time you enter the car. It was taking 20-30 seconds and I have maybe 200-300 contacts in some of those bloated social network folders. Not only was the load time a problem, but I really don't care to thumb through all the old friends and vague acquaintances from 20 years ago. (Wife asks "Whose that?" all the time). Fortunately, Android has the ability to HIDE contacts from selected bloated sources like Facebook, LinkedIn - many you would rarely call anyway. I only keep the telephone contacts visible, and it loads quickly.
My car was built June of 2010, so I do not have some of the newer capabilities. But I'm quite satisfied with the functioning of the basic phone connectivity; I have most my music on a 16GB USB stick in the center console box USB, all ripped with highest data rate. The sound quality is simply amazing, and the F10 interface to USB music I find works well for me. Like a few others here, I don't follow the Apple heard. My Android global phone has pretty amazing capabilities especially outside the US, doesn't have the reception problems, and doesn't incurring highway robbery charges for data overseas.

Does anyone know how to actually stream music (from pandora, or my audio files on the phone) into the idrive via the bluetooth? I can do all the office functions, phonebook, phone calls, etc.. but dont see how to stream music?
Thanks!

On the BMW Compatibilty Page, you will find for instance the Torch to have red X for Calendar and Tasks. But if you click the little arrow, you will see that it will work if you install an app called "Bluetooth CalendarSync". Also most of the Music features work for some Blackberries. |
