Speaking for myself - M3, CTS-V, G37 6MT. None of them is my preference, but I'd buy one over an automatic 5er.

M3/g are a different class and will continue to offer manual past m5. No comment on the cts-v.

Look at amgs, ferraris, lambos, bentleys, F1 cars etc. None of them are normal autos but none have a clutch pedal either.

I went sport manual on my F10 550i

I have a2000 E39 540 6spd manual m sport and a 2005 E60 530 touring auto. I love the 540 but, my girlfriend has shoulder problems, none of my kids can drive a manual, and it is easier to drive nonaggressively with an auto, which makes it easier on the passengers. I am thinking about keeping the e39. It is only worth a few thousand dollars and is really fun to drive. I have doubts the F10 will be that much fun.

That's the point that we're trying to make. For those of us who find it more engaging to use our left foot when driving, we'll move from one "traditional" class to another. For us, we consider the class of car to be based on how engaging it is to drive.

btw, I don't think ill of others with different preferences. I absolutely appreciate the efficiency and quickness of the new autos and auto-manuals. But people like me will follow the stick. That's the primary reason we got to BMW and (to this point) stay with BMW.

Over 36% manual owners here according to the poll results so far.

I'm impressed by this community.

F10 MT

I got the manual transmission. I have been driving for about 14 years now and have never owned an automatic. In fact in High School my gf forbid me to drive her auto because I would 'search' for the clutch and basically slam on the breaks. She as well as other drivers around me were non to pleased. That problem has subsided as I got older. But i digress ...

I love the manual for all the reasons people do. You are directly inputing what YOU want into the car and the car responds. The cars I have had: 1) 1983 Accord, 2) 1989 F-150, 3) 2000 Corvette, 4) 535i

A few things that have caught me off-guard. The gearing is very low. by that i mean the computer tells me to shift to 6 at about 44 mph. I know this is just to improve fuel consumption but still that just seemed very low. Also it is weird to be at 2K RPM's at only 60 mph. I guess it is just because I am coming from the Vette where I was closer to 80 mph at 2K in 6th gear. i assume that is the difference of having an inline 6 instead of the Vette's V8.

I have to admit that I have been stalling more often with this car than I ever have. I do not sure if it stems from me having not driven for almost 8 months or just the clutch, but I think it is the gas pedal. I am used to a direct line and not this completely electronic system I think the BMW has. That may just be an excuse :-)

One thing I def do not like is the placement of Reverse. it is left of 1st gear and I am used to right of 5th gear. Also the fact that Reverse is just a second detent instead of having some sort of locking mechanism to keep you out of reverse, is not good. I find that I will sometimes go into reverse when I want to be in 1st. I guess I am too strong for my own good

Overall I love it and the only thing i would change is the reverse

You may want to check how many of the voters actually "voted" with their wallets.

That's the traditional placement of reverse for sports cars to allow faster shifting from reverse to first. Look at Porsche, Audi (I think) and the old Ferrarris - it's the same thing.
