They are screwed into the wheel. All the tire shop does is unscrew and put them in your new wheels.

If you take your stock wheels to your wheel shop they will know what to do. Or if you want to buy a new set, you can PM Eric@pyspeed for a set!

Do I need to take off the tires on the stock wheel to get to the TPMS?

thanks

yes, and you have to keep track where they came from so you can put them on the new wheel for that same corner. if it came from the front driver side then it goes back there and so on.

This is something that I have not heard of....so the sensors are specific for each wheel?...what happens when you rotate your tyres....then one would have to take out the tyre, replace with the sensor from that specific tyre and then replace the tyre for rotation...does not make sense to me....

Is this really true???

I have problems with TPMS since I bought new BMW OEM 312 20" wheels ( including sensors ). Are they marked for each corner?

then you would most likely have to reset the tpms thru the idrive.

i know that when i had my wheels changed, the mechanic kept track of what tpms goes to what corner and i didn't have any issue after the new wheels were installed, coincidence? maybe. but i know what works.

cidair, you might just have to reset you tpms thru the idrive, i know we have that feature here in US, i never had the need to play with it though.

what if you don't install the TPMS Sensors, will it warn every 10 min or once upon start up?

No, the car gives no warning when they're gone. When I got my new wheels, my dealer had already removed all my TPM sensors and put them on the new wheels. Then they realized that one of the rims were bent from the factory so I had to wait about a week before I could get a new one. All they did was put my OEM wheels back on the car without the sensors and no warnings and no problems.

I would venture to say that there is no need to "remember" from which wheel the sensor comes from.

From the user manual, after a change of tyre or rotation or refill-up of tyre pressure, the reset is done through the TPMS module via the OBC. For the F10, there is an option to check that the TPMS is "active"...so, if presumably, if there is any fault in the sensors themselves, this should show up.
