Towbar on F10 520d M-Sport - should it stick out when retracted?

I have a 2011 F10 520d M-Sport with the electric towbar. I find it much more useful than the manually-fitted one that I had in my previous E60 5-series.

However I've noticed that when fully retracted it is showing below the level of the bumper, and about 3 cm below the underbody of the car (see picture). I've extended and retracted it a number of times, and it always seems to end in this position. There are no inidications that it is not fully retracted (i.e. the little button to control it in the boot shows a green light, and the check control warnings are clear).

Is it supposed to stick out like this when retracted?

Yup, unfortunately that's how it is.

But, trust me, after a while you won't even notice it anymore.
Beside, you can only see the thing from a rather low viewpoint.

Check for example my car:

EdwinF10 - thanks for the photo. It's a pity that it doesn't go all the way back - would be so much neater.

I put a bike rack on my towbar - much better than putting one over the boot (potential to damage the boot) and less hassle than trying to put bikes on top on a roof rack.

Cheers

LOL
Like this Maserati?

I use it mostly to scare off other folks who dare to park behind my beloved bimmer.

And occasionally, I put a bike carrier on the towbar (to carry my ATB).

Instilation Manuals

P.S. I tracked down the instillation manuals if anyone needs them. F10 in English and F11 in Swedish (I think) from other forums
