Surprised F10/11s are being broken up
Surprised some F10s are already being broken up. Accident damage fair enough, but some seem to be just high mileage with out any obvious issues (or if they are they are minor)
Not really knowledgeable about this but I guess used parts must have a high price these days to warrant these. (insurance write offs?) Note this one, which looks like the small offset crash that they test in the US now (that the F10 didn't do too well). Hope they were alright in this one as the compartment has started to collapse in a few inches for the front passenger. http://www.partmart.co.uk/breaking-v...automatic/1657 |

Parts prices can make all kinds of strange things worthwhile. In the 80s, motorcycle breakers were breaking brand-new bikes on some models because spares were so expensive and hard to obtain.

Looks more like the moderate offset test to me - but either way the US test is done at 40mph and the speedo is suspiciously stuck at 65mph on that car. Which is 2.5x more energy to dissipate.

In answer to your question, that one is surely being parted out because it ***ked?

that was always going to be a write off, look at the kink in the roof.

My 520D msport was just over a year old, a £9k repair bill, it needed a new front wing, headlight, bonnet and front bumper, and was written off.
3rd party non fault accident, and because I was in a like for like hire car at £230 a day, the 3rd parties insurance co offered to write it off. It was a 64 plate with 18k miles on it. They gave me full retail price for it, based on what the local dealer was selling similar cars for. Needless to say I was delighted and upgraded to a 535D msport as its replacement. I have a mate who works in the BMW workshop where it was for repair, and all their guys were gobsmacked that it was getting written off. |

Hard to tell from photos, I guess it is mainly down to chassis and cabin structure damage, the roof picture indicate that maybe some chassis damage underneath also occurred.
But I agree with how easy a car is written off, a friend of mine who investigate cars crashed for insurance companies tells me is down the suing and claim culture these days, so insurance companies take zero risk as it may cost them double down the legal root later, of course they pass on the costs to you and me with premiums. The extreme with cars is when they reported to be flooded, without checking they take cars out of circulation because with water problems may manifest at a later stage with the electrics and risks of fire, so the slight water in the car is out of business. |

I had in my mind a very old fashioned view of it in that case! I asume if the cost to repair was equal or more than a replacement, it was deemed a write off.
as you say, this explains why premuims can be high as they are. |
