Brake Judder Textar pads??
Hi all
I wonder if anyone could shed some light on what brand genuine pads are for a 2011 bmw f11 520d msport? I'm totally confused. I took my car into my local Bmw dealer in November with brake judder issues and they confirmed two front warped discs. I was a little surprised by this as they were only 13 months / 15k miles old. Anyway the dealer explained it happened because non genuine Textar pads were fitted. They changed both front disc and pads with genuine parts. Unfortunately I'm getting very slight brake judder again but the car has only done 650 miles! To make matters worse I've checked the pads the dealer fitted and they are clearly marked Textar. Can anyone shed light on whether these are Genuine parts for my car as the dealer told me they weren't but replaced them with the same part again |

Tony - I bought genuine BMW rear pads a few weeks ago, they are clearly branded Textar! They do have a BMW logo in the centre of the backing plate, this is probably how they tell whether they are BMW supplied or not
The Textar kit from Eurocarparts is identical to the BMW kit except it comes in a yellow box. Ian |

Just fitted brembo pads front and rear to my f11, also had sensors changed at the same time, i personally think the brembos have a better feel to them than the textar i swapped them for.
Got sensors and f&r pads for less than £100 pound in euro car parts.

I suppose it depends on what is meant by judder, but my initial thoughts that it is not really related to the manufacturer of the pads or the pad material.
Brake judder felt at speed is normally due to the brake rotors/discs being marginally warped and this is normally due to the driver repeatedly holding the car stationary on the foot brake after long braking sessions (when the rotors are very hot). Once the vehicle has come to a standstill the rotors will naturally start to cool down but more heat will be retained in the pad area (where they touch the rotor) as they insulate the rotor in that specific area. Repeated application will result in them 'warping slightly'. Best practice is to apply the handbrake which although does in most cars clamp the rotor it will be on the rear and unless severely warped is not noticeable through the steering wheel. Different pad materials will feel different to the driver when braking but for a dealer to suggest the rotors are warped due to non genuine pads being fitted is simply not true. Sorry to waffle on a bit but I'm in the axle manufacturing industry (bus/truck) and this is a regular 'customer concern' ! and can be almost entirely rectified by driver education.
