New design BMW DRLs

Anybody notice the new design DRLs appearing on 2016 3 series, 2 series tourer? Looks like bright single greyish white LED at the bottom of each light unit. In my view they look horrible compared to the coronas on fives with xenon or led lights, and certainly don't stack up visually compared to those on much humbler cars....anyone have an opinion or an explanation for the design choice??

The Corona Rings shout BMW the second you see them whereas the single bright light could be on any car, it seems a backward step and does nothing to advertise the BMW brand, it's a very odd move from a marketing point of view?

i think this is on cars with halogen headlights.

all BMWs with Xenon / LED headlights have the Corrona rings.

its the halogens that have the single bulb as the DRL.

Ians100, precisely my point, they look cheap and awful and as the average (eg people who don't frequent these forums) probably don't specify upgraded lights, if it is a reverse psychology attempt by BMW to get buyers to pay the extra it probably won't work - with the result that the brand is devalued in my opinion. The new Merc E class has LEDs as standard over here plus a bunch of other stuff that the BMW Five requires up to €10k in extras so the Munich guys are going to have up their game big time with the new five.

This is so weird I saw a 3 series the other day and was thinking the exact same thing. The LEDs, whilst very bright, didn't have the usual Angel Eye design. They were just a straight line with the bottom half of the traditional Angel Eye curve to them. Not sure why BMW has messed around with an iconic feature... Just waiting to see what our new F48 will have when it arrives in the next couple of weeks

If your new car has Xenon or LED headlights, you will have Angel DRL's. If you have halogen lights, you won't.

Full LED's along with almost every other option available

But the 3 Series I saw looked to have LEDs as well, they were just a different design to the ones BMW traditionally fits...

Its just the DRL that's LED on the 3 series you saw, low and high beam are halogen.

Agreed, the 1 series light look terribly ordinary

I agree, they look pretty awful, but the pre-LCI car was pretty much the same. Part of the reason I went for Adaptive LEDs was the looks, they make a surprising difference due to the extra width, LED indicators etc.
