Question F10 pre purchase questions.

Hi all, just wondering if I could pick some of your knowledgeable brains, I am considering buying a 2015 F10, I am trading in my wife's Ford Focus, they have offered me 15k trade in on the focus, the value of the F10 is €32k, 44,500 miles (71,000KM for the Irish contributors ) is this high? the car is just over 2 years old, so to me this seems high. I drove it today and I was very impressed with how it drove. it is still under full BMW warranty until Dec 2018 and the dealer provided the relevant proof around this.

Perhaps I am being over cautious but some of the threads on here regarding issues and problems is making me think I could end up buying a complete dud!

Here is the car in question, any sort of feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and finally, I noticed the calipers and discs were rusted over, now I know this happens with every car depending on how you clean it etc. but I just assume that BMW would be of a higher standard.

Yup, unfortunately they are, a brand new G30 Msport will set you back €60k and up!

It really annoys me, I've been keeping an eye on these in the UK too and while they're better priced over there obviously we are charged vehicle registration tax (VRT) of about 7-8k when importing the vehicle in to the country!

Hmm it is more than average mileage, but I sold my last one at 45k miles, and it was like new. I cannot comment on the price, but I wouldn't be fearful of the mileage, especially if you are not going to do a big mileage yourself?

And the calipers are terrible on F10s. They all tarnish and look awful no matter how careful you are.

On my last one the dealer said the previous owner used the wrong cleaner on them which is why they were so bad. I reminded them that it was their own managers car and they looked after it so they painted them for me. They still tarnished even after that!!

I complained to BMW that my F10 calipers were rusty at less than a year old but they refused point blank to do anything about it. I then asked my local dealer to paint them as they had a special half price offer at the time, but when I went to collect the car they hadn't done anything claiming that the paint was for earlier calipers, and BMW had told them it was unsuitable.

How can BMW get away with this though? Clearly rusting calipers after 12 months justifies at least a paint job! I gather there is no way this is covered under the warranty due to it having no direct issues to driving the car itself?

I don't think that is relevant, really. If big patches of rust appeared on the bonnet it would be covered even though it wouldn't have a direct impact on driving. It's probably down to what you can get a court to recognise as a "defect" or "fit for purpose". Maybe IanS100 fancies a go in the Small Claims court as a service to the rest of us although I suspect that wouldn't set any legal precedent.

Well after much back and forth with the dealer they agreed to paint them, unfortunately there was no option for the colour so it'll be black! But I'll take that over the rust any day! Picking her up tomorrow, serviced, new tyres (I declined the run flats) and freshly painted calipers

Careful.....if you are ditching the run flats you should declare that to your insurer as you are changing the car from its original technical specifications in that the car was designed to run on run-flats.

They always ask you that question when you take out a policy. It probably will not make a difference to the policy cost but you should tell them.
