for those who swapped out your mufflers...$?
for those of you who swapped out your mufflers what did you guys end up paying the muffler shop to do this? whether it's M5 mufflers, Performance mufflers, Megan, ect...also, for the mufflers that had to be adjusted to fit the diffuser was it actually modifying of the OEM hangars or the hangers on the muffler itself? trying to get an idea as my buddy who's a mechanic does welding. he actually welded my traction bars on my truck earlier this year. he's welded and modified catalytics but not actually cutting and installing mufflers. this is a Meisterschaft exhaust so i'm on the fence on whether to pay someone to do it right or grab a 24 pack of beer since that's all he wants for payment. not trying to be a cheapo here as i don't have a problem paying someone to do it. thoughts

At the shop I work at we charge $275-$350 for most non-BS straight bolt on axle back BMW exhaust installs. Cheap stuff that doesn't fit right is subject to additional time (money) to finesse.
Meisterschaft is good stuff, but those look like 550i mufflers, on a 535i, with a M5 diffuser. 3 things that add up to BS that doesn't just fit. |

i took it to a shop today with the mufflers in the trunk and he said it's doable as he stated that all i needed were two transducers to go from i believe 2.75 - 2.50. he said it's just a matter of lining things up and making sure everything's kosher before welding. nothing he said he couldn't handle. he couldn't quote me as he wanted to think about it. he suppose to call me back some time tomorrow.

I had my M5 exhaust welded axle back also and they used the original hangers except one that was rerouted. As for the for the transducer, he didn't use any. All he did was line things up and mig welded it into place. After everything was lined up he kept welding till the gap was sealed. The total cost was 75 bucks and took a few hours.

You guys getting ripped off. I had them install axle back M5 mufflers for $100.00. It took a few hours because they were busy too but it well worth the wait.
Hint hint; ask for a better price. Dont just take the price they give you first. They guy first said like $200'ish so I said "nevermind, I'll go somewhere else cheaper" |

Getting ripped off depends on what you're expecting for your money I guess.
If you go to some hole in the wall muffler shop / general mechanic you're going to pay less, and you'll get what you pay for... even if you don't appreciate the difference. A few hours work for $100 is very telling of the kind of shop you bring your vehicle to, although I'm not aware of the prevailing labor rate of qualified legitimate shops in the Seatle area. Here in Houston 125-200/hr is normal. |

I paid $180 in L.A. for the install which included a couple of pipe adapters from 2.5>3", mandrel sections and moving the hangers. Spot on job with nice welds, etc. I've used hole in the wall shops in the past and although the mufflers worked fine, the piping angles and welds were crap. Spend the money on a pro, is my advice.
Correction: it was $180, not $300. That was for the spring install. Last edited by ndinh; 06-27-2017 at 05:58 PM.. |

BTW, I admire your patience. Seems like you've been sitting on that setup for a long time now

Ls, I paid $140 to install my mufflers, the guy who did the work is one of best known exhaust guys in town. He did my camaro my ws6 and my 550i, he's been my exhaust guy since 1993. For the $140 he cut the tips off my megans and extended them to how far I wanted them to stick out and welded them back on, then he made the new piping from the axle back to the mufflers and made new hangers using the stock locations. When it came time to make the new pipe sections, he took me in the shop and I positioned the mufflers where I wanted them centered in the diffuser and how far to poke out. My exaust looks great and I get compliments on it all the time, it would be pointless to pay out the ass for something no one is going to see and something that is going to be dirty from weather and road jizz.

I know you've been patient with this set up... you are the only person I know that has a custom steering wheel for a F10... so I'd pay another $100 or so for cleaner welds and the ability to determine a clean install. Make sure you go to a shop where they understand where you're coming from. I went to a reputable performance shop and the old timer talked me into some methods because "he's been in the muffler business for 30 years" not that I've fully engineered the set up and his "eyeballing" wasn't precise enough for me. I regrettably had to settle for a quasi hack job. Still looks and sounds great though.

I believe I paid $250 and that included cutting the tips on my M Performance mufflers to install the custom quad tips that I have.

hi all,
i want dual exhause as i am changing my rear diffuser on my 528i F10 to a Carbon fiber one. Can i just add a muffler? or, can i get a stock m5 exhaust and add it to my car? Wanted the least raspyness / noise while upgrading to duals on my 528i.
