Question Jeep Wrangler JK/JL as a daily beater?

Anyone out there own a new Wrangler Jk or JL ? Thinking of another set of wheels but little hesitant because of the history of reliability issues w/them.

I’ve got a 2011 JKU Rubicon that I bought new and now has 115k miles on it. Never had a lick of trouble with it and it’s been used and abused very hard and daily driven for 15-20k miles a year until I bought a e92 last year just to keep the miles off the Jeep and to save on the 11mpg mileage I’m currently getting with all the mods I’ve done to it.

My Jeep will take you to hell and back! It’s never had an issue... never let me down... never not started and run perfectly. I’ve driven it 600 miles, wheeled the crap out of it on buggy trails, and driven home with my family of 4 inside. Last summer we did a 12 day 2500 mile road trip across the southeastern US while it had 110k miles on it. The trip included off-road detours in Windrock Offroad Park, Beasley Knob OHV, and many hours on the highway at 80-90mph. I never had a doubt it would not be entirely dependable.

I wouldn’t trade it for anything it’s my go to when the Bimmer has issues. If you can live with a BMW for “reliability” then the Jeep will seem like a Honda.

Wondering where you heard about reliability issues with the wrangler? Maybe confusing with the Grand Cherokee or other models... I had an 05 LJ Rubicon for awhile, loved that thing. I may get another but this was purpose built offroad and daily duties. Id love a more mildly built Jeep for daily uses, especially in Florida or if you live somewhere with heavy snow. They're absolute beasts.

Beautiful Jeep Biginboca

I have had a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara since new that I daily. It's all stock and I have about 67k miles now.

So far I have had the following replaced under warranty.

Left cylinder head replaced, this was a known problem for the 3.6l pentastar for that year model. (Bad casting)

Front drive shaft u-joint locked up. In Chrysler's wisdom they made the u-joint non replaceable so the whole front drive shaft had to be replaced.

Rear axle seal leaked and had to be replaced.

Also the driver's side has been leaking so bad I had to remove the carpet and remove the drain plug when it rains. New door seals on the way and they didn't cost much. That's the one great thing about these things, you will always be able to get parts, there are just so many aftermarket parts manufacturers.

Fuel mileage is horrible

Needs new shocks

I'm never getting rid of it.

I'm interested in this too. The reviews on the new model say its a lot more drivable on the road.

That’s not too hard of a feat accomplish.

If your looking at consumer reports, then honestly a Jeep isn’t for you. My Jeep roof leaks in the rain, rattles over 30 miles an hour, the driverside door hardly closes, and gas mileage is worse than my M4.

But there’s nothing like a Jeep.

lol - well i know about the ride the leaks and rattles - i just don't want it sitting in the shop getting repaired most of the time

the new JL white are having a hard time with grill and fenders turning yellow .... guess the plastic parts

unfortunately after paying 55k for a jeep and parts turning yellow would drive me up the wall .... but thats just me

I would wait for them to work the bugs out of the new model if you don't want to be taking it it in for work. IMHO

Otherwise get a deal on a JK and enjoy.

I currently have 2 wranglers as well as the BMWs. They are get in and drive vehicles, save for the issues I have caused. I have had more issues with the M3 than any jeep I have owned.

They are great DDs, as long as you don't go to crazy with the off road mods. One of the cheapest convertibles you can buy.

My latest, in project mode. The other in the background

I can't imagine a Wrangler being a good winter DD as far as any sort of comfort goes.

55k? Unless your goal is a great offroad toy, $ is spent much better elsewhere for a mall crawler.

55K is allot, but some people go buy the all out rubicons with leather and all that in them. Heck you can spend 100K new easily on a modified one.
