I don't think the new 5 Series saloon looks that much different to the F10 - which is probably the intention!
Not enough to move me away from the F11, yet. I will run my 535D F11 until it is out of warranty next November.

  • The F10 is as good as its ever been after 6 years of tweaking.
  • Most faults have been rectified in campaigns
  • The G30 is back at the start of this journey
  • Spec on the G30 will no doubt be improved within first year

At the end of the day I recon 3 years into the G30 will be a good time to buy, or just after the first facelift.
I suspect the G30 will follow the F10 trend - the F10 was very expensive for the first 4 or so years of its production life. There were discounts but nothing like 30%.

3-4 years after launch you needed almost £30k for a good used M Sport 6 cylinder and it'd have been about 3 years old. Today that budget buys you one with an age measured in months, not years.

This is what people forget when they mention the new model - the 'ageing' process of the F10 is already partly reflected in it's values and new pricing. As a car ages, the discounts increase to keep it competitive.

Obviously the F10 will see a dip in residuals once the new model is established but that doesn't change the fact that now is about as cheap as it gets if you want a new 5 Series.

C2C currently showing 33% discount on 530d and 38% on the 535d! That's assuming they can actually source the pre-built cars. I know there's quite a few 4 pots kicking about, but not entirely sure on the 6 cylinder variants.

But hey - 38% discount is incredible....

So did I ,
I do expect to keep this car two years so if it's worth 25K then I would accept that probably.

First impressions of the 535.
  • At first I didn’t think the VDC added a great deal but after a couple of hundred miles I can confirm it makes a huge difference. It’s subtle but very effective in improving the ride and handling quality – definitely worth the money.
  • Engine is a little more refined and quieter but not noticing much change in performance however, obviously not stretching its legs until we get a few miles on the clock
  • Loving both the look and practicality of the Touring, the self-levelling suspension will also make a big difference when I’m towing
  • Only added the HUD at the last minute and pleased I did, really clear and helps keeps the eyes on the road.
  • The advance speakers are also very good and marked improvement over the standard.
  • Not sure about the multifunction instruments, particularly at night but perhaps this will grow on me.
  • I have noticed a few, albeit small, changes to the LCI car like: indicators have been quietened down, the idrive controller his not as clunky and high gloss trim around the wing mirrors.
Will feedback when the car is run in and try and get some pics uploaded but we are in perpetual darkness up here in the frozen north and need a dry window of opportunity at the weekend!!

Great summary, I think you've nailed it. Where the 535d really performs is from about 50 to 120 mph. I'm a frequent traveller to (and a previous resident of) Germany so it makes a huge difference over there ...

Only just... 2" front and back and 1" clearance on the mirrors. The G30 won't fit that's for sure.

Wasn't to sure about the MFD, but it's growing on me

Looks absolutely stunning!!!

Well done

For you to have had several f10's confirms it is a good car. That's reassuring for us here.

Nice Car enjoy, shame some of todays Garages just don't accommodate Cars.
I had my Garages made to a larger STD, so I could use them.

Agree I have a double garage so at least I can open both doors when only 1 car in it.

Great when you want to wax your car indoors.

Its a luxury really

Unfortunately I can't do anything with mine John as there is a structural pillar directly behind the centre wall.
