Does sport mode change exhaust note?

535i with stock exhaust here. I usually have my music on so I don't pay attention to the exhaust note. Today I punched it in sport mode up a hill. No music on and I thought the note from the back sounded more much more aggressive than in normal mode. Like a nice roar :-)

yes it does, anytime there is enough pressure, vacum tubes that go to exhaust tips, opening butterfly flaps making it sound more aggressive.

It just sounds like that because the RPM's go up more and the tranny shifts in a way that makes the engine wind up, down and shift more "race-car esque" which translates sound wise. Thus you hear the exhaust not only more, but you hear it acting more aggressively.

No mufflers at all?! You have any sound clips? Any loss of low end torque/MPG? I'd assume it'd be loud as hell but Turbo cars have different relationships with mufflers than N/A engines do (i.e N/A engines exhibit the typical loss of torque, loss of MPG, and insanely loud sounds when mufflers come completely off.

It does makes some noise in Sport Mode... because my wife ask the question, why do you need another exhaust when it sounds like that..

Nope. Just engine revving more.
