Selling back to dealer?

Hi.

Due to a change in circumstance (company vehicle) my F10 is now surplus to requirements.

Given its low mileage (11k on 12 plate) and well specced how likely do you think it'd be that a dealer would want to buy my car back? I don't think I'd have much luck selling privately as I live in a relatively remote location.

Either that or any member that might be interested?

Dealer should take it no problem, but expect to take a hit financially compared to selling it privately.

Yeah I expect so. Wonder how their price would compare to one of these buy any car places?

Have a look at Parker's and then subtract 10 - 20%, should give you a rough idea.

Garage List
Worth asking if they will 'sell on your behalf' - ie take a fee / commission vs taking it into ownership.

Given its low mileage I doubt they'd object to displaying it ?

Can you not convince the company to take it on as your car?

I've not given them a call yet. Will do today.
Just wondered what to expect before calling.
Couldn't use the car for work unfortunately - has to travel up and down tracks on occasion during site visits etc

I wouldn't think being remote would make it impossible to sell. A keen buyer would travel to save £2000-£3000 from a dealer price. It should help you weed out the timewasters too.

Depends how quickly you need to offload it I suppose and how much hassle you are prepared to put up with.

You will generally get better money for a private sale, regardless of your location as SnB says.

Sometime you get lucky with dealers, when I got rid of my RRSport, I got top money from a dealer as they had a buyer lined up, right place right time and zero hassle for me.

When I sold my previous Audi, dealers were getting nowhere near, so I sold privately that time.

I know it's repeating the above, but it just depends how much you value the additional money you might get for a private sale versus your time and the hassle you might have.

Dealer will always be the almost zero hassle route, but generally at a cost.

Thanks for comments. I'm waiting for a couple of dealers to call me back. Will see what they say. Not sure what to expect price wise.

No real need to sell quickly other than the car just sitting in the garage. Mrs is keen to get her new A class into the garage now!

When I sold my E60, I did'nt want any hassle, so agreed a price with the dealer I was getting my F10 from. Out of curiousity I tried the online brokers, and it was a £1000 apart, and then you have the haggling.....

So, rightly or wrongly, the difference was not big enough and I went with the simple offer, which i have never done before on cheaper cars.

Also, the more costly the car, the more issue you have with non cash purchasers who need to arrange finance etc

In that case, why not see what you can get on a trade in?

She's already got it. Took delivery last weekend.

Had I known then what I do know then yes I would have traded it in.

I think many large BMW dealer groups such as Inchcape, Sytner, Halliwell Jones etc are always looking for a decent car to sell, suggest you make contact with the buyer of each group and see what they can do for you..?

That's a good idea.

Here is the link for Sytner:

Try webuyanycar.com and the others as well.

Just wanted to sell a mini one cab on a 61 plate and they came in at £8800 which is nearly a grand better than any dealer offer.

They like nice saleable cars.

These people are now owned by British Car Auctions, so don't expect the price they indicated in the first instance...

Why?

That is what they paid.

We mentioned that two alloys needed refurbing and they noted that when taken in. The price is what they paid.

Describe it properly and they will pay what they offer, say it is mint and then take it in with a scratch and a couple of kerbed wheels then don't act surprised when they knock £400 off their offer.

Given that the webuyanycar business model is to sell purchased product at auction, they will have a very good database of average auction price and will therefore buy at a certain percentage below that.

Wouldn't sellers do better going direct to auction, putting a reserve price in that is near or equal to the webuyanycar offer?

The dealers are interested but as a rule of thumb it needs to be <2 years old and <40k miles with FBMWSH. Anything else will be traded straight out usually via an auction.

I agree, mine with 70k, despite being immaculate, went to auction
