new to the 5 series forum
Gentlemen,
I am looking for a car for my wife and myself. I drive a 08 335i coupe/sports/6mt ssk/ no runflats Wife drives a XC 60 3.2 fwd volvo. We just drove the X1 and the X3. Not enough improvement over the XC 60 to warrant a change. But we saw a 5 that just said buy me. Question: 1. What options to I have to get in the car to improve the electronic steering? 2. What options are a must for the chassis and suspension? 3. We are thinking about rear wheel drive, is that a mistake? 4. I definitely what a fold down rear seat for one bike, but we need some suggestions on a hitch and a rear rack for two bikes. 5. Lastly should I buy a 2010 with hydraulic steering instead? Should I buy a 2011 with the 6 cylinder instead of the 2012 4? 6. Today I drove a 328i 3 series 8 speed auto on an event from a local dealer. I hated the steering. Very artificial and light. Thanks in advance for you thoughts and suggestions. I love the look of the 5, love the interior, now need to option it correctly or look else where. |

1) Not sure if you can do much about the steering
2) Order Dynamic Damper Control 3) That depends. I live in DC and have gotten by just fine without it with RWD BMWs. You may need a dedicated set of winter tires 4) No idea 5) Different cars buddy, but if the steering bothers you then why not? You need to drive the 2011 6 cyl versus the 2012 4 cyl to decide. I personally thought the 4 cyl was a lot more responsive so went with it. I am very happy with the 4 cly engine 6) YOu might hate the F10 steering too. Have you driven one? What did you think? I recommend the X5 diesel:
1. Hydraulic steering 2. Adaptive Drive 3. All wheel drive is better 4. No issues of space for stuff 5. The 35d has massive torque, great fuel economy and the kind of steering you seem to be searching for. I have a 550i with ARS+DDC (same as Adaptive Drive) and runflats and the X with Adaptive Drive has a nicer ride with normal tires. I love the power of the 550i but I don't miss it (much) when I'm driving the X because the torque of the X5d is only a bit less. Give the X5 35d a test drive, you might be surprised. |
