Wheel Lock Broke In Half

Hey everyone. I have quite a problem. I got a flat today. Went to a local tire shop who proceeded to take off the wheel lock and the thing broke in half leaving the internal part inside. He was clueless on how to get that out. Tried jamming a socket which didn't work. Told me to go to the dealer. Any ideas?

Looks like it will need drilling out. Or try a gator grip socket....

Yeah thats not gonna be fun... drill it out and use reverse bolt out tool. otherwise you will need a new hub. You're in NY, if you can get to motorcepts and have them take a look if they can help you out. let Leo or Fred know Galo sent you.

I had this happened to me on my E60 as well with a local tire shop. I ended up bringing to the dealer as they were equipped to tap the sheared locking lug to remove it. It cost close to $300 mainly for labor, but the tire shop reimbursed me for it.

Did they try to take the wheel lock off manually or powered tool?

This is what happens when places use power tools on wheel bolts instead of teh proper hand tools and correct torque values.

oleg,
I think i already responded to carbons post on bimmerest…..get to dunns wheel and tire shop in the bronx call them first and explain… no harder working group of guys… cash only and the shop is relatively outside so be prepared to wait in the cold or walk a block down to dunlin donuts…but they are pretty amazing and will leave no stone unturned to fix an issue…ask for dunn or mills….
