Morimoto hid

I installed a pair of Morimoto elite HIDs in my fogs. They look great however the problem is that I get an error message only when they are off. Once I put them on the error message goes away. I purchased the morimoto's from a forum member and he said he had no error message when he had them installed. What could be the problem??

this is pretty standard for CANBUS cars.

the error cancellor prevents an error while operating but do not provide the resistance to keep the error off when lights are off

I called theretrofitsource.com and they said BMWs do a hot check and a cold check. Hot check is when the lights are on and cold checks are when the lights are off. They said maybe I can double up on the canbus decoder but I wanted to see if maybe anybody else went through this. Morimoto HIDs are supposed to be error free. It also seems to be only one side giving me the error when off

I have the exact same HID setup and mine worked flawlessly for almost a year. Took my car in for service and not sure what they did, but now, only one side will work (passenger side). I have swapped the hardware from side to side, so I am sure it is a software issue with the car. I still do not have it resolved. Very annoying.

Man that sucks what about if you put back the stocks to see if they work? Then bring it back to the dealership and try to have them look at it under warranty

The stocks have been back in for over a year now, they work fine. I have tried putting the HID's back twice and same result. I am convinced they updated something in the software and now it doesn't work. I really liked the HID's, especially during the winter to help me spot potholes. I have 3000k bulbs, so they are yellow.

Kevin, i'm thinking if it had to do with the year of the car that TJBentley have. TJ yours is 2011? Mine was a 2013..

Looks like TJ has a 2012, mine is a 2011. I don't think the year matters. I think there are different versions of the software that the dealer can flash to your car and that's where the difference is. They will not fix it because from their perspective the fog lights work fine and don't give any errors. If I am getting errors on an aftermarket product, that is my headache, not theirs.

I bought a pair (not sure the brand) a while back and supposed to be error free but had the same situation like yours. error when off and normal when on. However, on mine, the error went away after 10 minutes or so when fog light off..
Anyway, I coded to eliminate the light bulk warning. It's all good..

Mine is 2012. The rep at retrofitsource said some cars are just more sensitive than others possibly

Yeah guess I might have to do the same if I can't get them to work without the error
