Why did you get a 5 series?
Had an interesting conversation with a gentlemen today who told me his story on why he got 5 series. He was a very old, but funny man. He said the way he chose his car was his wife had 7 plates (for each series, so like 3 series, 4 series and so on) and she would throw the plates in the air and he had to shoot it with his shotgun while drinking and finishing 7 glasses of beer... He managed to only shoot 4 but he thought the 4 series was a ladies car so he went with the 5 series. What's yours?

My kid was invited to a birthday party and place happened to be next door to Audi dealership, so, I had two hours to kill, and always considered A6 as my next car. After spending some time talking to people there, I decided to visit BMW dealership not far away, where I ran into friendly sales guy who needed to kill some time before closing for the day.
I wasn't really on the market for a new car, but checking these made me think, and consider my options. My co-worker at the same time was looking at S4, C63 or M3/335i, so we kept checking what was available every now and then. Two weeks later listing for CPO with 20K miles and exact specs and color I would've picked came up, and.... well things escalated quite quickly from there. |

for me i've been racing compact cars since my early 20's and now that i'm older i wanted something a bit bigger but still sporty. looked at the 3's, 4's and the 5 series is what i thought suited my needs. really wanted an M5 but at the time they didn't have a CPO. almost...almost went with a 6 series but thought it looked weird but after checking it out on the 6 forum it actually looks pretty sweet! anywho...that's my story!

Was wondering how I was going to keep 2 Lincoln LSes running with ever diminishing parts sources (I have the last 4 shocks in my garage). My main criteria was RWD, at least 300 torques and 4 doors. I eliminated Chrysler (will they be around much longer? Cheap interiors) and GM (their OnStar is waaaay too intrusive for me and cheap looking interior; among other biases) so I was left with Hyundai, BMW, Merc and Jaguar. The MB's interior was a turn-off for me so that left the other three. At the time I was looking at the Genesis V8, 550 and V8 XF. There are at least 2 BMW dealerships within a reasonable distance (~10 miles) 1 Hyundai and 1 Jag. After doing some investigating I was going to go with the 550 (I really hated the NAV screen placement on the XF [too low] and was concerned about a used Hyundai). Then I stumbled on the issues with the N63 so switched my focus to the 6-bangers which realistically left only the BMW. I couldn't be happier with my 535i. This is my first BMW and hopefully not my last.
I read a lot of complaints about the handling but I'm quite satisfied. Cruising is effortless and when I want to tackle mountain roads I'm not disappointed. |

I just picked up a CPO'd 535i M-Sport a few days ago. It's mainly for my wife / family car. We also have a Jeep wrangler unlimited and a 06' Porsche 911. My wife's previous car was an Audi A3. It was too small for a full on family car and not that fun to drive for me compared to the 911. The jeep is great but it's noisy and wobbly. Not so comfy for long trips, other than to the mountains that is. We were using the 911 as a weekend family car but the kids are just getting too big to fit back there in the tiny rear seats for very long.
The 535 is spacious, comfortable, classy and most of all... the M-Sport package provides me with enough of a fun sports car feel to make it a well rounded family car. I still prefer the 911 as it's great on the track and back road romps. |

I had someone come out of a side road and total my E70. I was given a 6 Series loaner for 3 months and loved it, bar the lack of rear legroom for the kids... So I had my heart set on a 6 GC. I must be getting older and wiser (or tighter 😆, as I started to think that the 5 is 90% the same car and a lot cheaper.
Buying a 5 would allow me to get a replacement car and put a down payment on another rental property to add to my property portfolio for the cost of a 6. For once in my life when it came to buying a car logic came out over my heart!! To be fair I love the 5 and it was the right choice, very similar to the E70 in terms of cabin space and more fun to drive |

I used to work at the airport on the private jets side and I used to drive customer's M5s, B7s, and sometimes we'd get some 528i rentals, and I started to like them from then on.
Later on I got a better job in my field and started to save up and was looking at some 535s when a couple 550s popped up out of no where and I took one home one afternoon.

Natural progression for me. Bought a brand new 2001 325ci 5-speed for my 25th birthday and have been a BMW guy ever since (I was actually a BMW fan way before owning one though). Kept the coupe until my 2nd child was on the way and sold it in favor of a 6-speed CPO 2005 330i ZHP sedan. As my kids started getting bigger and I got the itch for a new car, I picked up my CPO 2011 535i. Not exactly sure what I will move to next. An M5? A 6GC? Have also been considering jumping ship and getting a Panamera GTS....... We'll see when the time comes..... As for now, I love my 535 (although sometimes I wish it had that third pedal).

I had a 3 series when I was younger, which was my absolute favorite car. Then we had our first kid and the back seat was too small for a car seat, so I had to get rid of it. Then we had another child...and another. I ended up driving a a Lincoln MKS because it was one of the few sedans that could fit three car seats across the back. Now that my oldest child was out of a car seat and my Lincoln was approaching 100K miles, we decided to look for a new (new to us, CPO technically) car. I knew I wanted to get back into a BMW, so I picked up my 5 series 3 weeks ago and couldn't be happier.

Having two kids and have a 120 mile commute each day. I wanted something with 4 drs and comfortable yet sporty.
I had a MK6 GLI and was looking to get awd since im in the NE. Went to take a look at the F31 328d and purchased it. Having an e46 M3, i was hoping for the same interior space but quite disappointed that it was smaller after putting in the two toddler seats and my stroller would not fit. Needless to say i needed something bigger, two months later, Im on my 535i xdrive. Couldnt be happier... ok thats a lie, maybe having an M5 will. lol |

I was running an E39 540i wagon (best BMW I'd had at the time) and downsized to an E91 wagon out of choice, partly as I wasn't convinced about the E60/61 at its launch. I loved the design of the F10/11 when they arrived, more E39 like than the E60/61, but waited until the F30/31 came along before making a decision of buying a 3 or 5-series. To be honest I did miss the 5-series, the quality, the drive and feel of the car.
The 5-series won. The right 535i wagon came along over 3-years ago, love the car as much, if not more than the E39. BTW, I had my first 5-series, an E12 528 back in 1980. A 5-series is sort of in the blood. HighlandPete |

Had an e90 335i and at the time when I bought it, It was still out of reach of the boy racers. Fast forward to 2014 more and more 20 year olds and other Youths are zooming around in them. For me it was time to sell her. Plus I reached the highest power level I wanted (FBO with JB4).
Test drove the f30 335i and then the f10 550i. It was a no brainer. Power/Luxury/Premium feel of the 550i won out. The f30 just felt cheap.. a little more so than my e90 335i. Now with a 550i and a JB Stage 1 tune I am a happy camper. Now all I want is a damned intake!!!! |

My wife was pregnant with our 3rd, so the e46 was no longer going to cut it. I'll be damned if I am going to drive a minivan, and I am not thrilled by SUVs either. I wanted a car that would fit three car seats across the back. Manual transmission was a must, and RWD was strongly desired. That is a pretty small pool of cars.
I wish I could go back to driving my e46 everyday.

I had an E39 and used to travel from Portsmouth to Plymouth every month, grinning all the way. The company was going to pay for it but it was too old, I cried when I chopped it for a Mondeo! I promised myself I would own a fiver again. Now I do! woop woop!

I wanted a fast sports sedan. I initially wanted a M5 but I had to settle for a 550 x drive modded (closer to the power of a M5) because of the all wheel drive. Up here it snows a little during the winter, I love the car and saved some money along the way.

Had my 99' E46 for about 13 years, and put 500k (300k miles) on it. Body was going thanks to the salt in Canada for winter but the engine was still going! No major work either than new clutch, and shocks. BMW 4 life !!! Always wanted an M5 and was looking at the E60 M5 but oh the price on those parts even with my discount and the gas milage.... Hmmmmm. Friend of mine that sells cars, comes by one day with my 2011 550i, and it was "love at first drive". The rest is history.

Coming from an e90 and didn't really like the F30, but really liked the F10.
