Foggy Fog lights... not covered by warranty?
I bought this 2011 535 recently and noticed the fog lights had some sort of "swirly haze" on them. I took the car in to BMW for service last week and the advisor gave me a typical lame excuse as to why these fog lights could not be changed under warranty. Any thoughts? I can't tell if the haze affects the actual performance of the lights... I just think it's ridiculous that with a car like this I have to drive with these clearly defective lights and BMW not do a thing about them...

I have the same "swirly haze" on both Fog lights but I've never tried to replace them under warranty, maybe I should.

If they won't fix it, call BMWNA for help, After this issue is resolved, mention that you will be maintaining your car at other BMW dealership

That's BS. They HAVE TO replace that under warranty. I had a Chevy Malibu I bought Used that was under warranty and they change both headlights with no fuss.

My experience was with the headlight, Dealer show me the guide lines from BMW and at what stage they consider the fog/steam inside a danger by blocking lights, so on the basis of lights is still going through the lenses BMW is not in a position to replace the device, I Personally find this an insult to our intelligence on the basis of the cost specially when I purchased the full visibility package with Xenon headlight.
At the end the steam did clear away, I know some argue this is down to the vent system within the lights, I put it down to bad engineering. |

they have to replace it with the new one if you just bought your car recently. however, although your car is been a year, it think it is still okay as long as you give them some proofs. i also have the same issue but my issue is the headlight: both right and left headlight. i am going to report this issue to the dealer next week when i get my car service. i hope they want to replace it. you better call the service manager and talk what your problem is.

It's hard to tell from your photo (it's a good pic but it's probably easier to see up close in person) but it looks to me as if there's some abrasion ... as if the fog light lens was beat up by brushes at an automatic car wash or 'sand blasting' from road debris. Is that possible?? If it is, for such a new car, these exposed surfaces should be able to withstand "normal use", without showing such wear, for several years - not months!

I bought the car from a private seller. Not sure if that may be the reason why my dealer would not agree to change these under warranty?? anyone know, who I could call at BMW? contact info? thanks! |

update on this... I contacted BMW and they said it's up to the dealer to assess whether the fog lights are defective and therefore should be replaced under warranty. Sucks that they don't take accountability when the dealer is not willing to replace these under warranty.

Just went to the dealer 2 days ago asking them about the water inside my headlight (right and left). They are going to replace it with the new one, but the headlight will arrive to the dealer in2 weeks later. They covered it under warranty, so i do not get ant additional fee from them or buy the headlight neither. You should ask the manager of the services.
