Hi Alan,

After you came up with the hypothesis of the P brake been the culprit of the Batt drain issues I thought that I had the same problem as you, but when I disconnected my JB4 2 weeks ago the Batt issue went away. I reconnected the JB4 last Friday and to my surprise I had the Batt message the next day. After upgrading to the 5/12/2013 hex file my batt issue finally went away.

Strange. My parking brake theory held true for 2 weeks and i thought it was that for sure but then out of the blue the message popped up again. I updated the jb4 last weekend and i got the message again this week so who the hell knows.

Anyone getting "Drivetrain Malfunction" errors popping up on the iDrive? Im not feeling any powergains and the car is very laggy. Is my car just now accepting the unit? I def have a perfect install, i even soldered the CAN taps in.

I am bringing my car in for service tomorrow so I switched to map 0 which is basically bypass mode (stock mode) and boy was I surprised how much of a difference I felt. The JB def adds a lot of bang for the buck and the increase is very noticeable going from stock to tuned and back to stock.

Yes i know I took mine off when I took it in for service. Most people on here say its a good idea if you are still under warranty. I do need to run some logs and send them to Terry to see how it's working with a 6MT I'm still runnning the older firmware that he emailed to me, haven't tried the new firmware but i have downloaded it.

I had actually asked the service rep at my local BMW deal about the tune and he stated that they don't care as long as the tune did not cause that specific issue. For normal service, it sounds like leaving the tune in place is NOT an issue.

I would not suggest that.. Once they see it, its a red flag (sometimes even flagged in the system) and if anything happens later down the line they can go back and blame it on you having a tune on your car. Its always best to take it off. Its not like its hard anyways..

For those who remove your piggybacks before going in for service, be aware about tell-tale signs that come from modifying as well. Make sure the screws for the ECU box lid don't look stripped or worn, and don't let that be the only clean area of the engine bay while everything else is dusty.

I have to say I recently had a service done to my car. I have the stage 1 installed and tucked in the corner area and it is really hard to see that I have anything installed. With that in mind, I bit the bullet and took the car for the service without removing the unit. No one noticed it was there. So i guess if you are in Toronto and with parkview BMW you should be OK without removing it. Just saying.

Just following up on this...did that firmware upgrade resolve the battery issue for good? I'm getting this same problem. I keep my doors locked and never use the P brake.

Also, did the firmware update involve making physical adjustments to the hardware or was it just an upload?

Thanks

I update it to the newer 8/6/2013 hex file and I haven't seen the drain batt message again.

Is your MAF sensor disconnected from your JB4? When I had the MAF sensor connected to the JB4 (purple harness) I had the battery drain problem. In the new revised JB4 installation Guide it says not to connect it.
