Reverse Camera

My F10 has a reversing camera which is fantastic, however i`m about to trade in for a nearly new F10, but it doesn`t have a reverse camera. Does anybody how much BMW charge to retro fit this..?

I recommend "a neck". It's fitted as standard to every driver. It includes a 110 degree swivel which can be extended to 180 degrees with the optional extra "hips" also free.

Neck and hips cannot show you how close you are to the car behind you when parallel parking. It was invaluable today trying to fit into a tight spot.

Neck and hips are not as effective in this situation where you are sitting low surrounded by a high cowl and massive seats My one regret is not ordering the surround cameras when I ordered my car. Cameras are essential when maneuvering this car.

I agree... Once you've had the reversing (and surround) camera(s), you'd not want to go back to using only the "neck method" ever again!

Ellmat, it looks as though you're in luck as there seems to be a retrofitting kit; don't know the price in UK though.

Thanks for your input, called 2 dealers today, both quoted around £800.....might be cheaper to get the bumper re-sprayed every 12 months !

Hmmm. Somewhat steep for a single camera, I agree!

I can't remember the factory fitting price now: I think I paid about that for the surround/front wheelarch/rear cameras in total (and that seemed quite a luxury: although no regrets, I use them every drive and would hate to be without them now!).

I almost backed over my 18 month old grandchild if it had not been for her mother yelling stop at me. Now I will not own a car without a back up camera. It is tough to see below the top of the rear deck lid using a mirror or "a neck"....!

The factory fitted price for rear single camera is around £300, which is not too bad, I guess the price for retro fitting bumps up because of labour costs, the actual parts must be quite cheap. At the moment i don`t think i would be happy for a non BMW company fitting it and playing around with the software...I need to hear more reviews first.

i got kit from http://alekshop.com/products/multime..._f_series_bmws and it's been working perfect for 3-4 months... just a heads up, you need to know how to run wires from the trunk to the gps because his instructions are pretty bad.... he also send me wrong version for my car but got me replacement pretty quick, that was probably because I was one of the first people... and it is pretty helpful, when parking backwards you can see exactly where you at, if not for that camera I would of killed some cat who was at the wrong place when I was backing up and there would be no way I could of seen him without camera

The worst nightmare.
That's why the investment in the camera kit is worth every penny.

Apologies to the OP, slightly off topic...

but I have the F10 reverse camera and would like to add the front camera.
Lowered cars with spoilers and curb stops/curbs don't mix

Has anyone added a BMW or aftermarket front camera to the mix?

It seems that the camera from Alekshop includes a front camera as well. Anybody else want to chime in on the installation process of the camera from Alekshop? The price does not seem bad.

Can't say that I miss not having a camera on the back. The beepers plus the pictogram with colour bands do a great job of showing where the object you're reversing towards is.

So can you retrofit a front camera if you already have the reverse camera/hardware box? I'm wondering if the box also has connections for the front camera and would only need getting that part......?
