I think you are getting this diesel in the States as the LCI but labelled as the 535D (same as the 530d in Europe - ie 258BHP)

Thanks for the great review. HUD and Comfort seats are the 2 things I would definitly include were I in position to configure an F11 and purchase from new.

Happy to help with coding. I have just had my car back from BMW where they updated the software and wiped all of my custom coding. Last weekend I redid the coding so got to dust the cobwebs off the cable and laptop.

I'm in Kent just inside the M25 if close enough for you. PM me if it makes sense.

The VIN info on this thread seems to indicate the US will get the 190kw (255hp) version where I thought the EU 530D motor has 210kw (281hp)?

I hope this confusion with what f10 diesel we are getting, in the states, ends soon. Bmw is selling the 320d as a 328d in the states.

Im hoping the 535d USA is the same as EU one and not a smaller engine named 35d.
Why do they complicate it and confuse everyone?

Out of interest did they update the software at your reqest or as a matter of course?
Re the coding thanks for the offer, I'm aiming to get a laptop shortly so am aiming to dabble in this, nothing too serious though.

The 2012 530D that I have here in the Uk has 258HP. I know they updated it I think around the end of 2011 from 245BHP.
its enough in the real world.
A 0-60 timeof 6.0s is in my opinion a very respectful time.
I've not driven a 535D though so can't comment on that.

Yea I think that's the one they are going to call 535d in the US.

Do you find the FCW & ACC useful options? I am thinking of retrofitting them if I can source the parts cheap enough

UK 530d uses the 190kW output engine.

I paid just over £100 to have the car updated to allow for the input of 7 digit postcodes in the SatNav. My F11 was a launch car so built in July 2010 with the Combox but with generation 1 software. I updated the maps from 2010 to 2012 last year and this let me input 7 digits but the car only recognised 5. BMW were happy to oblige.

Ah ok.
The only software update that I'm aware of that migth be of interest to my 2012 model affect the HUD where you can see the radio channels / music track , which I think teh F30 has had from day 1 I believe.(I think I have that correct?)

IF that were to happen , from what i read, you need later PZData files for E-Sys?

Yes I do find it very useful.
ACC really comes inot its own on motorways where traffic is heavy and it just allows you to cruise along and it will simply keep its distance from the car in front. It feels very weird at first exepcially when teh car in front stop and your car stops. If you car is stoppe for more than about 3 seconds, it will stay where it is unless you press thet RES button or touch the gas or touch the scrolly thing on the steering wheel (what ever that is called!)
ACC is not goo for around town , if you've set a speed of say 40mph and come up to a roundabout and slowed down by the car in front, if it moves left or right out of the way, the car will simply try and speed up to 40mph again. SO its best use are fast roads. Be aware that cars cutting you up may cause your car to brake quite heavily.

Forware collision alert for me is really just an insurance policy. I occasionally get a RED car alert waring in the HUD if it thinks I'm going to hit it but I'm already on teh brakes or teh car in frnt is turning off to one side and is not actually a threat. There are a couple of settings in the Idrive you can set for how early you want the warning. I have it set to the earliest.

On one occasion I got a check control warning on the HUD stating "Collision alert disabled" (or similar words I don't recall) and this was down to some snow / slush that had built up on the sensor under the bumper. Wiping it off allow FCW to work again.

I'd say ACC is worth having , try it if you can although I suspect you may find it difficult to find a demo car at a BMW dealership with it fitted.
The sensor under the bumper is not obvious but is a sort of recessed rectangle so you can spot a car with it very easily once you know what you are looking for. to date, I've never noticed anotehr car with it to date around London yet so I suspect its not a common option specifed in the UK.

I've got an early 2012 f10 (520d M-Sport) with Prof nav but do not get RTTI info in the main Nav screen - only in the smaller RHS window if I enable the nav view in that option.

I've scrolled through the options when Navigation is chosen for the main screen, and get the usual North/ perspective /view of all traffic incidents /etc - but not the RTTI overlay. Is it only available on certain models or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance...

PS great review. Most of it matches my experience / view (esp re the steering) despite the different engine.

That's very odd. At least you are getting rtti, if not I would have assumed your subscription was active for some reason ( mine took a couple of weeks to com through after buying the car)
If you take the spilit screen off and just have the map on the whole screen do you. The RTTI overlay?

I'll have a play when I'm back from overseas later this week. But on previous experience, no; hence using the split screen all the time...
