Thank you. Yes that is the tire size on 9 and 10.5" wide wheels. Cal mistakenly stated 10" rear in the first post (which I ordered but they showed up 10.5" but I am glad worked out that way and like the 285 on a 10.5" much better this time around). I think the bit more tire stretch has finally grown on me especially with these wheels. Best to leave it to the experts... SonicMS and Forgestar got it perfect, IMO.

My Bad, I didn't know this was your car in the pics -- I just saw Cal At Sonic MS. It looks great.
My tire shop did an electronic alignment, but resetting the suspension they did not. Is the adaptive suspension called active suspension? I've never heard it called that before. I've only heard of the active steering. Thanks for the info. I'll ask about resetting it at the dealership or like you said, take it to another. |

My bad, adaptive suspension (which has an active swaybar/suspension)..
I also have the active steering which is what BMW said might need to be aligned (rear wheels) or steering could be off or DSC malfunction light (mine had none of this). According to my SA the shop needs to have the equipment to connect to the modules to correctly set the active steering but if eveything seems fine it is probably ok... take it for what it is worth and consider the source (i.e. a BMW SA)... Yes, of course I have the adaptive suspension, but not active steering. As far as resetting the suspension, I'm wondering if has something to do with the adaptive roll stabilization.
The Racing Dynamics website suggests having the BMW do the electronic alignment and resetting the "Active Suspension". I don't know if they're referring to the ARS or if it's another option like self leveling which is not even an option on a 5 series here in the States -- maybe that's for the GT. Sometimes, the mechanics at my dealer seem clueless when I ask questions -- I'm really probably going to through them for a loop with this one. |

My thought is they are talking about the active sway bar (I actually looked up the option code RD Sport references and it was different then the straight self leveling, but it did say something about leveling (which I hadn't checked my build for that code), but assume it is a component of the adaptive suspension package probably leveling side to side (e.g. sway). Just keep it simple and like you know what you are talking about "I need you to reset my adaptive suspension and/or the active sway bar for the new ride height" Oh tell them it is only lower by about an 1" or 1-1/2" (nothing extreme)... They seemed to like that "oh well you only went about an inch, that is no big deal" "some people go really low and that could be a problem". Yours looks about the same as mine as far as ride height (e.g. my front fender gap is maybe 0.1" less than the rear fender gap, but sometimes seems almost identical front to back depending on how level the ground is, etc.). You can get about on finger in there almost straight? Good luck whichever route you go. Modding can be a lot of trial and error to get it exactly the way YOU want it... I checked it out on the RD website as well, and it's referring to the 2-axle level control system which the 5 series doesn't have that option here. I think only the GT and the 7 series has self leveling (front to back).
I can ask about the ARS system though to see if it needs resetting. You would think it would be okay since it's just side to side -- I'll ask. As far as the measurements go, I can barely get a finger in at an angle in the front and I can get one in straight in the back. Thanks, you're right about the trial and error. This is my first mod and 4th BMW-- but I just couldn't take that gap any longer on something I just spent that much money on. |

Wow. Just felt in love Those wheels are just outstanding! Great car as well. I'm going to buy one in one or 2 years but it would be the touring and diesel version. For sure it would be black

I find the simplest swap out of the factory grills to the all black performance grills the nicest effect. I hadn't seen it photoed before and it's really sharp. The factory chrome kidneys would have been too 'executive' for this wicked dropped ride. Enjoy your unique beast!

Loving the drop. I really want to do the RD springs but I'm kind of scared of what will happen to the ride... Last edited by Needsdecaf; 03-27-2011 at 08:41 PM.. |

Finally got around to installing the front/rear painted reflectors today in addition to some custom painted matte black 550i badges. Here's some quick pics that we snapped
Front reflectors removed, we had to remove the fender liner in addition to the side view camera in order to remove the reflectors properly. Rear reflectors before After Here's some pics of the end result. Much cleaner look Next on the list - custom painted matte black fender trim in addition to vinyl'd out gloss black door handle trim for complete chrome deletion. |

Hi Glock 32. Are you still happy with your H&Rs? No bouncing I hope. I just had my H&Rs swapped out for the RDs and wow, what a difference. The front is not as low, and it's obvious they're made for the adaptive drive because there's no more bouncing around --- just a tighter, lower sport suspension.

Yes, I am still happy with my H&R springs. I do not notice any bouncing and I actually expected I would with any brand of aftermarket springs. The car seems rock solid in any mode and all modes are still usable. It sits pretty low (which I like) compared to some of the other 5-series models I have seen with H&R (almost as low as I had my E60 M5 with KW's). Overall the car dropped about 1.75" - 2" in the front and 1.25" in the rear from OE yielding an end result of 14" center of wheel to fender on the rear and 14" or maybe closer to 13.75" on the front leaving the fender gaps front to rear pretty much identical and still about 1 straight finger worth of gap (but first measurments might not have been on perfectly level ground). Now I am not trying to compare springs to coilovers, but the ride COMFORT and ability to suck up bumps seems similar to the KW's on my M5 which I loved vs. what I would have expected from aftermarket springs. I honestly think of your situation a lot (e.g. hit a dip in the freeway and expecting some sort of off balance front to back bounce, but end up surprised that the suspension seems to just 'suck up' or absorb even some of the more severe and abnormal dips in the freeway without any unwanted bounce.) BTW, what mode did you notice the bouncing in? I don't drive in comfort, but have tested a few times briefly in that mode and still no bouncing. |

Nice to hear you are good with the H&R, Glock. I also found the H&R not bouncy as opposed to others experienced. I don't have AD and mostly driving on normal mode. Driving over dips on highways I really don't find the springs bouncy and just suck up the road imperfections as you said. I heard from another Hong Kong member who has the H&R on his 550 with AD that in Comfort mode his car becomes more bouncy and therefore he never used this mode. I wonder if this is the cause and Comfort mode should only be used on local street or low speed.
H&R on 550 seems to drop more than other models, mine could fit in 2 fingers as opposed to 1 for yours. Up to this moment I am very satisfied with the H&R springs.
